The Preschool Assistant position plays an integral role in the cultural and social development of our preschool children. Under the direction of the Preschool Teacher, the Assistant will help to guide children's behavior, ensure safety, assist children through their stages of development and prepare them for school. **Please note: There are two positions open, one is full-time permanent and one is part-time 21hr+.**

**WHAT YOU'LL DO**
- Assist with the planning and carrying out of the preschool program plans, including activities, games, crafts, snacks, field trips, supplies etc.
- Incorporate SPICE (social, physical, intellectual, cultural and emotional) needs into all aspects of the daily programming.
- Teach basic skills such as identification of colours, shapes, numbers, letter recognition, personal hygiene and other social skills.
- Attend to children’s basic needs by assisting with meal times, dressing and other personal hygiene activities to promote learning.
- Assist with identifying children showing signs of emotional, developmental, or health-related problems, and discuss them with Preschool Teacher for further follow-up.
- Assist with file maintenance for the students.
- Record daily activities, materials and methods used. The teaching techniques should enhance listening skills and speech and language development
- Make necessary referrals for health, development, speech, language and hearing on the request of the Preschool Teacher.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Preschool Teacher.
**WHAT YOU BRING**
**Education and certification**
- Early Childhood Education Assistant Certificate or be in school currently to obtain this. Minimum requirement having a Responsible Adult Certificate.
- Early Childhood Education Certificate and current license to practice an asset.
- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR Certificate or willing to obtain.
**Experience**
- Experience working with children in a Preschool environment.
- Experienced in program planning, performing assessments and supervision (children and staff).
- Experience with reporting and budgeting.
- Knowledge, respect and understanding of Stó:lō culture, traditions and language is considered an asset.
- Experience working with First Nations community and children is considered an asset.
**Skills, attributes and abilities**
- Warm and personable.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to adhere to Oath of Confidentiality and Seabird Island Band Policies and Procedure.
- Valid BC Driver’s License, Class 5. Class 4 Driver’s License is considered an asset.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Check
