**Background**

The Women & Children’s Shelter of Barrie supports abused women and their children who have an experience of abuse. Our agency is committed to providing emergency shelter and community based services that support the diverse needs of women in our community.

Our agency recognizes the need for safe and affordable housing that supports the unique needs that abused women face. As the City of Barrie population grows, so does the requests for service including supportive and affordable housing. In our commitment to address the needs of our families regarding housing, the agency is seeking a Housing Coordinator to assist the Executive Director and Management Team in the purchase and facilitation of our next second stage/third stage housing.

This position reports directly to the Executive Director and is part of a transitional housing committee of the agency. This contract position is part time, 24 hours per week and is an in-office location and not offered remotely. Flexible work days are required to facilitate housing searches and viewings and to accommodate the needs of the program transition.

**Duties or Responsibilities**:

- Ability to work with a team/committee that includes facilities management, fundraising, shelter services, finance, housing program worker and administration.
- To research viable housing options working alongside the Executive Director and Realtor.
- To assist with the purchase of our agency second stage/third stage housing option and to see that process through to completion.
- To communicate effectively with community partners to advocate for the needs of women and children with the goal of offering affordable second/third stage housing.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment that will have competing deadlines and requirements.
- Preparing documents and ongoing communications to the transitional housing committee regarding progress and future needs.
- Facilitate the first transitions for women and their children to move into the new residence.
- Create a sustainability plan to identify future capacity, financial and agency needs that will support our new housing option.

**Qualifications**:

- 5 year minimum of experience and awareness of relevant legislation regarding not for profit housing, Landlord Tenant Act and all necessary guidelines to offer affordable housing to service users.
- An understanding of the violence against women sector including the importance of safe and affordable housing.
- Extensive experience and knowledge of working with City requirements for housing start up and accessing available exemptions available to not for profit agencies.
- Relevant competency and experience in creating policies and procedures that cover the expectations and responsibilities of both the agency, not for profit housing and women using transitional housing services.
- Complete understanding and adherence of the importance of discretion and confidentiality.
- 3-5 years’ experience and comfort in community speaking to potential donors and financial supporters to illicit funds for the agency housing goals. Strong ability to communicate professionally.
- Proficiency in Windows, Word, and Excel.
- Excellent written and oral skills.
- Self-motivated and highly organized; able to work independently but as part of a dynamic team.
- Strong interpersonal, conflict resolution and creative problem-solving skills.

- Valid C.P.R. and First Aid Certificate
- Valid Ontario Driver’s License with $1,000,000 liability
- Access to a vehicle
