Autism Nova Scotia delivers programming in Halifax and in nine communities across Nova Scotia through our Regional Autism Centres. Our three program divisions are: Social & Community Inclusion; Employment Support; and Family and Caregiver Support.

**POSITION TITLE**:INCLUSION & ADULT SUPPORT COORDINATOR

**POSITION**:Full-time, contract employment 40 hours/week (Flexibility required)

**POSITION START DATE**:November 2024

**LOCATION**:Halifax, Nova Scotia (local travel required)

**SALARY**:$50, 000 annually

**DIRECT REPORT**:Manager of Family Support

Program Summary:
Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Family Support, the Inclusion & Adult Support Coordinator will work directly with Autistic individuals and their families, helping with navigation and advocacy as well as providing education sessions to community partners as per request

Qualifications:

- Post-Secondary Degree/Diploma (for example: Social Services Diploma or Bachelor of Arts Degree) in a related field or equivalent job/personal experience.
- 1-3 years of recent experience working with Autistic adults considered an asset.
- Fluency in French, Arabic or other languages (is considered an asset)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of overall goals and intent of Autism Nova Scotia and its Chapters (including organizational structure, policies, guidelines, programs and project activities)
- A strong knowledge of Autism and the diversity of needs throughout the lifespan of all genders is essential
- Strong interpersonal skills are required, strong knowledge and connections to the disability or autism communities an asset
- Knowledge of survey tools, data reporting and software programs such as ShareVision, Office 365, and Zoom.
- Must have the ability to plan, organize and coordinate activities; to address constant and varied demands of the position
- Must have the ability to develop information sessions, create and deliver presentations to a variety of community stakeholders
- Must have the ability to collect, manage and write reports on data and metrics related to Family Support Department needs
- The position requires active and empathetic listening skills, sound judgement, tact, diplomacy, good communication and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to interface with a wide range of personality types
- Must have the ability to access information, create and prepare various documents, spreadsheets, reports and presentation
- The position requires fine motor skills to operate computer equipment, along with the ability to perform task such as assisting with equipment for community presentation

Key Accountabilities
- Community Outreach - A strong knowledge and understanding of the local supports, programs and services offered in the community is critical
- Acceptance - As a part of our core team, the Inclusion & Supports Coordinator will seek opportunities to create acceptance and foster relationship building in the larger community
- Education - As a part of our team, the Inclusion & Supports Coordinator will develop and coordinate educational materials as needed for internal and external usage
- Linkages - As a part of our team, the Inclusion & Support Coordinator will build linkages with key stakeholders in the larger community to work toward a seamless continuum of service delivery
- Knowledge - A strong knowledge of Autism, community development, family support and up to date evidence-based approaches for supports are required within this role

Responsibilities include:

- Assist adults and families in understanding the rules and regulations attached to various forms of public and community support or programs
- Provide information on the programs and resources available to meet the needs of Autistic individuals
- Liaise with and/or promoting the interests of adults with community service providers, professionals, and school personnel as required
- Provide emotional support and feedback to adults and families that connect with ANS
- Work with families and adults with complex needs to help connect to resources and advocacy supports required
- Collaborate with the Inclusion and Family Support Coordinator when needed to support families and individuals 18 and under
- Adherence to a high ethical standard of support for any Autistic individual, respecting individuals right to be treated with dignity and respect. Use discretion and respect for confidenti
