**About Autism Nova Scotia**
Autism Nova Scotia is a community-based organization that builds understanding, acceptance, and inclusion for Autistics/individuals with autism and their families through leadership, advocacy, education, training, and programming across the lifespan.
**POSITION TITLE**: INDEPENDENT LIVING SUPPORT (ILS) COORDINATOR
**POSITION**: FTE - 40 hours a week (need to be flexible - occasional weekend and evening work)
**LOCATION**: Halifax, Nova Scotia (travel may be required)
**DIRECT REPORT**: ILS Manager
**Program Summary**: The ILS Coordinator works directly with individuals and families who are accessing the ILS program at Autism Nova Scotia. The ILS Coordinator provides individualized support with Autistic adults who set their own goals in living independently. The ILS Coordinator also supervises the Community Living Coaches who also provide individualized support within the homes of adults on the spectrum accessing the ILS program.

**Educational Qualifications**
- Hold a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education, Social Work or related field.
- 3-5 years of recent experience working with Autistic adults.
**Knowledge, Skills And Abilities**
- Have knowledge of autism.
- Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of person directed, trauma informed framework and evidence informed practices of working with neurodivergent adults.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the social model of disability and/or critical disability studies.
- Experience working within community-based programs preferred.
- Familiar with Microsoft Office programs.
- Excellent observation and problem-solving skills, required.
- Demonstrates the ability to take direction and work independently.
- Demonstrates the understanding of the limits of competency, required.
- Applies knowledge of community-based service delivery systems.
- A valid Nova Scotia driver’s license and clean driving record.
**Role and Qualifications**
- Complete all program intakes, risk assessments, participant-led goal area assessments (AFLS, EFL) with supervision from ILS Supervisor

- Provide site visits with ILS participants based on the hours and areas that they want support.
- Regularly checking in with ILS participants to ensure quality of support.
- Provide one-on-one coaching to the Community Living Coaches when needed.
- Collaborate with the ILS Manager, Program Director as well as external community organizations (DCS), health organizations etc.
- Ensure all documentation that is housed for ILS participants is up to date (site visit information, call logs, up to date information, incident reports, progress reports, Individual Support Plans etc.)
- Complete scheduling for Community Living Coaches.
- Completing performance appraisals and fidelity checks.
- Oversee Community Living Coaches training, supervision and scheduling as needed based on participants in the ILS program.
- Provide data, information and documentation to the ILS Supervisor as required.
- Be responsible on a rotating basis for the ILS after-hours support phone (includes evenings, weekends and holidays).

- Demonstrates excellent communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of an interdisciplinary team in a variety of settings required.
- Competencies in other languages an asset; French or Arabic preferred.
- Adherence to a high ethical standard of support for any autistic individual; respecting individuals right to be treated with dignity and respect; high discretion & respect for confidentiality a must.
- Researching and preparing information, presentations and resources that will be shared with individuals, families, professionals, and prospective community partners.
- Planning, developing and maintaining effective communication with individuals with autism and their families as well as Autism Nova Scotia team members and direct supervisors.
- Fostering positive community partnerships and connection around the organizations program and services.
- Maintenance of related records and statistics, written reports including monthly and annual reviews.
- Providing information and/or referrals on the programs and resources available to meet the needs of individuals living with autism across the lifespan.
- Performance of other related duties as required. Requirements
