position of System Equity Officer.

The System Equity Officer has executive level responsibilities and reports to the Superintendent of Human Resources. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- building and maintaining networks of support for equity and human rights across the school board and in school communities;
- providing equity and human rights compliance training to senior school board staff and Trustees of the Board;
- supports the design, development, implementation and delivery of training in the area of Equity, Diversity and dignity of every human person;
- acting in an advisory capacity to the Senior Staff and the Board when requested, in respect to the diverse communities, their needs, challenges and impact on student achievement and well-being;
- working with the Senior Staff, Principals and Managers, coordinates the development of classroom resources to support elementary and secondary teachers’ equitable and inclusive classroom practices and initiatives;
- works closely with the Pastoral Services EFAP, Respectful Workplace Advisor, Indigenous Education Lead, and Adult Faith Animator to provide advice and make recommendations to Senior Staff and the Board on matters of policy and practice concerning equity, diversity, inclusion and dignity of every human person;
- working and liaising with external partners, including the Ministry of Education and local Indigenous and equity seeking communities to promote and support equitable and inclusive schools;
- leading or participating on a variety of Board committees;
- provides leadership and direction for policies and practices that support educational achievement for students who face barriers to school success. Collaboratively determine the equity learning needs and responsible for the practice of equity as it relates to the Board’s instructional priorities; and
- providing strategic leadership and direction on achieving employer compliance with Accessibility and AODA as it relates to all students, staff and the community.
- working with and creating partnerships with external communities and stakeholders. Working with internal staff including consultants re: curriculum departments development/destreaming.

The System Equity Officer will provide exemplary leadership and work proactively with the Board in supporting the Board’s Mission and Vision as well as contributing to the execution of the Board’s Multi-Year Strategic Plan, the Board’s Learning and Improvement Plan, and the Board’s Equity Action Plan.

**Qualifications**:
**Educational qualifications**:
Post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate in an Equity/Human Rights related discipline, Humanities or Social Sciences, or a clearly demonstrated equivalent work-related experience;
**Experience**:

- superior understanding of Ontario Human Rights case law; the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (as it relates to the Workplace Harassment, the Education Act and Regulations) and associated legislation regulations and policies related to Equity and Human Rights;
- knowledge of Ontario’s publicly funded schools and education employment equity issues;
- excellent skills and experience in interpersonal, communications and, problem-solving skills, strong data analysis skills, sound judgement and sensitivity, broad understanding and an inclusive approach to building consensus, solving problems, and relationship building;
- demonstrated ability to build rapport with various stakeholders, motivate people, diffuse escalating situations and put people at ease; and
- experience handling contentious issues with sensitivity, confidentiality, and discretion.
