**Position Overview**: *
We are seeking a lawyer to join our growing team as Regulatory Counsel. Reporting to the Vice President, Legal, you will be joining a legal team of 6 professionals (Executive Vice President and General Counsel, Vice President Legal, 2 Legal Counsels, Administrative Assistant) who are committed to the high-quality practice of law and working as a supportive team.

As part of the Xplore in-house team, the Regulatory Counsel will be responsible for all telecommunications regulatory matters, including interacting with and carrying the messages of Xplore to help shape policies on rural broadband. This includes working with ISED on matters relating to wireless and satellite telecommunications and being responsible for all submissions and appearances with the CRTC. You will also monitor all pending changes in laws and regulations that may impact Xplore’s business.

You will work collaboratively with other team members, at all levels. Your ability to build effective relationships with the stakeholders, to listen to their fundamental concern, and to formulate creative solutions will be critical to your success.

**Key responsibilities include**:

- Champion rural broadband with regulatory authorities, including preparing Xplore’s submissions to ISED and the CRTC relating to wireless and satellite telecommunications
- Working closely with the Executive Team and the Leadership Team, and each of the business units, in order to support the development of public policy in a manner that aligns with commercial interests
- Supporting the Marketing team with advertising review, and the Product team with consumer-related issues (e.g., the CRTC’s Internet Code)
- Supporting the Operations team with security and privacy matters
- Supporting the Care team with customer escalations, including CCTS complaints and small claims
- Supporting the Network team with negotiating Municipal Access Agreements for our fibre builds
- Reviewing, drafting, and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements
- Providing professional, timely and business-oriented legal advice in a collegial manner
- Assisting the ongoing development of templates, precedents and reference resources
- Actively managing external counsel where required
- Researching, analyzing and communicating changes to laws and regulations that may affect the business units
- Member of the Law Society of Ontario (or equivalent) in good standing
- Minimum of 5 years of regulatory or administrative law experience or significant experience within government, including the CRTC and CCTS
- Experienced drafter with an ability to break down complex notions into accessible writing
- Excellent communications skills, including speaking, drafting and presentation skills
- Bilingual (English and French) skills are an asset
- Strong technical knowledge in telecom or ability to acquire industry knowledge
- Existing relationships with telecommunications authorities or ability to build relationships
