**About Us**
The Canadian Media Producers Association is Canada’s national trade association for independent English-language media producers. We represent hundreds of companies engaged in the development, production and distribution of English-language content for TV, feature film and digital media channels.
The CMPA is currently seeking a talented and experienced **Director, Regulatory Affairs** to join our dynamic organization. Reporting to the Senior Vice-President, Industry, Policy and General Counsel, the **Director, Regulatory Affairs** is responsible for managing the CMPA’s regulatory files.
The CMPA’s Regulatory mandate is to advocate on behalf of the best interests of the CMPA’s producer members in relation to the laws and regulations impacting both the Canadian production industry as well as the Canadian broadcasting system including the regulatory activities of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commissions (CRTC).
**POSITION OVERVIEW**:
The Director will assess existing and proposed broadcasting legislation, regulation, and other related regulatory or public policy initiatives, and advise CMPA staff on the implications of these initiatives by providing recommendations on appropriate responses and/or courses of action. A key part of the Director’s role will be drafting CMPA summaries, memos, proposals, and interventions, as well as working with CMPA staff for presentations and appearances at public hearings. The Director will also support the policy work of the CMPA staff, and help support other priority initiatives, as required.
**ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Prepare CMPA submissions to the CRTC and other government departments and organizations on all regulatory matters relating to broadcasting and production, with the potential for work in other areas such as copyright.
- Evaluate existing and proposed legislation, regulations, and government policies as they relate to the independent production sector’s regulatory environment, as well as assess the impact on the organization and its members and prepare the CMPA's responses.
- Assist with the preparation of presentations at the CRTC or other government hearings and appearances.
- Work with CMPA staff in research and data collection initiatives for the purposes of policy development and communications to government, regulatory agencies, production funding bodies, media and the CMPA members.
- Play an active role in developing and executing on CMPA communications as they relate to regulatory and legal matters.
- Support the policy work of the CMPA, as well as other priority initiatives of the organization.
- Carry out other duties as may be required from time to time and in keeping with the level of the position.
**COMPETENCIES REQUIRED**:
The following competencies and skillsets are required for this position:
- Possess a university degree in Business, Communications, Arts, Social Sciences, or Law. A relevant graduate degree would be considered an asset.
- Relevant experience in the regulatory field, including but not limited to the policy, decisions, and operations of the CRTC and/or broadcasting law and policy.
- Proven background of building and maintaining effective working relationships with the CRTC, government officials and/or industry stakeholders; having successfully managed the work of external firms and consultants.
- Be willing and able to travel.
- Exceptionally good judgment.
- Strong aptitude for initiating and leading projects and analytical thinking.
- Superior ability to prioritize, organize and manage a multitude of projects concurrently.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in an inclusive and collaborative manner.
- Proficiency with the English language at a high professional level (i.e., verbal, written and comprehension) is considered a minimum qualification.
- A working ability with the French language (i.e., verbal, written and comprehension) is considered an asset.
- Strong proficiency with Office Suite, such as Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
