**What you'll do**:
The Radiation Protection Division (RPD) is accountable for directing the CNSC’s centre of excellence for operational radiation protection for all proposed and licensed nuclear facilities and activities. The division is responsible for the licensing of dosimetry services and implementing risk-based licensing and compliance activities. RPD also serves as the corporate authority on regulatory practices with respect to radiation protection/dosimetry and provides direction and represents the CNSC’s interests in relevant national and international organizations.
We are looking for early to mid-career professionals to join our team. Reporting to the Director, you will have the opportunity to use your expertise to work as part of a team to:
- conduct technical assessments and provide support for licensing and compliance activities related to operational radiation protection.
- contribute to the development/drafting of regulatory documents, regulations, policies and guidance related to radiation protection.
- provide advice and assist in the development and delivery of the CNSC’s Radiation Protection Program for CNSC staff and related training.
- provide support to national and international program activities.
Additional tasks of a Radiation Protection Officer may include participating in various types of outreach activities with stakeholder communities and supporting the CNSC’s Emergency Operations Centre.
**Essential Qualifications**:
**Education**:
University degree in health physics or related scientific discipline or an equivalent combination of education, experience and relevant job knowledge as defined in this work description.
**Language Requirements**:

**Experience**:

- Participating in technical reviews related to occupational radiation protection.
- Provision of advice related to occupational radiation protection and/or health physics principles.
- Participating in multidisciplinary teams and interacting with different stakeholders
- Participating in the management of projects

- Leading and/or managing technical reviews and making recommendations
- Provision of advice related to occupational radiation protection and/or health physics principles and the delivery of related training
- Leading and/or managing multidisciplinary teams and interacting with different stakeholders
- Leading the management of projects and delivering presentations
- Coaching and mentoring of junior staff
**Knowledge of**:
- CNSC regulations and regulatory documents, national and international standards, guides, and recommendations applicable to radiation protection/health physics
- Operational radiation protection principles relating to the types of CNSC licensed activities
- Principles for assessing and controlling radiation hazards
- Techniques for managing projects and making presentations
**Ability**:
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Assess complex technical information, synthesize and communicate findings
- Engage effectively in interactions and consultations internal to and external to the CNSC
- Deal with sensitive issues with diplomacy, tact and judgement
