The Individual Learning Modules Office is responsible for the creation, maintenance, and distribution of all Individual Learning Modules (ILMs). ILMs are standardized learning resources for instructors and students in apprenticeship, trades, and technical training courses. Based on the Alberta apprenticeship course outline, published modules are an important part of the apprenticeship curriculum and provide apprentices with current, standardized learning materials that meet or exceed Alberta industry standards. The ILM office, both a learning resource development and publishing team, manages ILM content development, product creation, publishing, and product distribution.

The ILM Curriculum Development Lead reports to the Manager Product Development and Publishing within the ILM office and is primarily responsible for managing curriculum development activities and supporting a culture of agile project management. This includes:

- Leading curriculum development of ILM learning content for ILM print and digital resources and products.
- Collaborate with Project Coordinators and ILM Leadership team to prioritize ILM curriculum development projects and to develop required ILM learning resources and products within those projects.
- Implement context-based and adult education practices related to curriculum design to ensure relevancy, currency, accessibility, and quality of ILM products.
- Support development of apprenticeship student learning outcomes, learning objectives, and learning resources that support learner and instructor success via collaboration with Alberta post-secondary institutions and training providers, as well as government and industry representatives.
- Incorporate technical and educational innovation and implement based on Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles and potential learning management system (LMS) functionality.
- Support facilitation of Program curriculum guide mapping as it pertains to learning outcomes, objectives, and content being supported by, and within, ILM products and resources.
- Consult on digital learning resources and digital ILM products.
- Support the ILM learning content and product quality review process.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Curriculum Development Leadership and Support for ILM projects:

- Produce new curriculum products, and redevelop current products, to align with ILM strategic initiatives, Alberta apprenticeship Program and industry needs, and provincial mandates.
- Needs assessment and curriculum creation in alignment with ILM and Alberta apprenticeship expectations.
- Fostering evidence-based practices in all aspects of ILM learning content creation and delivery, including but not limited to providing expertise in:

- Outcomes Based Education (OBE) practices in all aspects of teaching and learning.
- Curriculum quality.
- Program and course mapping.
- Instructional design.
- Instructional best practices.
- Bridging the gap between theory and practice in evidence-based curriculum design, development, and delivery.
- Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
- Integration of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) strategies.
- Integration of new educational technologies.
- Integration of Indigenous Ways of Knowing aligning with Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action.
- Development of new ILM learning resources and products for both instructors and students.
- Utilizing innovative approaches to curriculum development that improve efficiency and resource usage.
- Consulting on assessment guidelines and instructional best practices.
- Learning resource/content development process innovation.
- Collaboration with ILM project team and other stakeholders to achieve production targets.
- Team Leadership and Supervision
- Participates as a member of ILM operational leadership team to develop and prioritize strategies, improve processes, and resolve problems within the work unit
- Assignment of Instructional Designers, Editors, and Subject Matter Experts to projects
- Supervision of curriculum development team’s work progress and quality
- Supporting the recruitment, hiring, supervision, and on-boarding of curriculum development team (including contractors).
- Supporting curriculum development team/contractors in acquiring the skills necessary to develop pedagogically sound learning content for face-to-face, blended, and online learning environment delivery of ILM content.
- Provide training, and identify professional development opportunities, for curriculum development team.
- Monitor learning content creation and development process to ensure timelines are met
- Collaborate with other department leads to ensure Instructional Designers and Editors are meeting project deliverables and expectations
- Utilization of a project management system to manage Instructional Designer and Editor tasks and assignments
