The ELAL, Fine Arts, and Social Studies Branch leads the development, maintenance, and support of K-12 curriculum for English Language Arts, Fine Arts, and Social Studies.

**Curriculum Consultant, English Language and Literature K-12**

Are you looking for a position that has province-wide impact and influence?

The Curriculum Consultant is key member of the Humanities, Wellness & French Curriculum branch who manages complex curriculum projects by leading teams that can include both permanent staff as well as Interchange Participants.

As Curriculum Consultant, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

- synthesizing and summarizing researched content from a variety of sources (e.g., scholarly peer-reviewed academic journals, administrative publications, government studies, books, jurisdictional reviews, etc.) to support development of future curriculum;
- providing a seamless transition in curriculum from grade to grade, level to level, and from senior high to post-secondary studies and the workplace;
- establishing and maintain strong communication and working relationships with stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate information flow and identification of issues;
- providing research-informed advice to leadership regarding curriculum content and sequence of learning;
- managing teams within the branch to support the operations and overall functioning within the branch; and
- providing such other services as may be required and agreed upon between the Employee and the branch Director.

**Requirements**:
Master’s Degree in a related field, supplemented by a minimum of five years of related progressively responsible experience is required. Equivalency is considered; Bachelor’s Degree in Secondary Education supplemented by seven years of related experience.

Related knowledge/experience must include:

- curriculum development models;
- English Language Arts, including a thorough understanding of its philosophy, history, and current and seminal research;
- theory, principles, and practices in English Language Arts to ensure creative and innovative curriculum development;
- department goals and policies that relate to curriculum development and implementation; and
- structures and policies of school authorities with respect to provincial accountability systems and teachers’ participation in such tasks as curriculum development.

Knowledge and/or experience of the following are considered assets for this position:

- excellent oral and written communication skills
- research and information
- project management
- ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- possession of a Master’s degree in Education or a related field;
- knowledge of government decision-making, implementation, and internal and external stakeholder engagement processes and instruments;
- experience understanding legislation, regulation, and policies to provide strategic direction to branches and to make feasible recommendations to executive leadership;
- understanding of, and experience with, Social Studies and/or Social Sciences; and
- understanding of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit education.
