Why is this role important?
- The Manager, Communications is responsible for overseeing CIHI’s corporate communications including product/report releases, media relations, digital content and social media and employee communications. The Manager, Communications is a relationship-builder and works collaboratively and effectively with internal clients to ensure communications strategies are developed, executed and measured on time and on budget.
- What you'll do
- 1. The Manager is responsible to lead and motivate the team; provide clear direction; effectively delegate and monitor performance results; motivate and develop others to go above and beyond; support others through change; make decisions that balance the best interests of the team, the organization and its stakeholders; and lead by example by living CIHI’s core values.
- 2. Develops the budget and Plans for and manages day-to-day operations of the department and all projects of the portfolio, ensuring quality products, and deliverables are met according to CIHI’s Operational Plan and Budget.
- 3. Leads the development and execution of communication strategies and plans
- 4. Develops and implements a media strategy and pro-actively responds to media requests, acting as spokesperson when required. Develops key messages, media releases and op-eds, pitching strategy, and media training
- 5. Develops strategic messaging to support internal and external communications, monitors and effectively manages issues - or crisis communications approaches - which may have an impact on CIHI’s staff, brand and reputation.
- 6. Collaborates with colleagues to facilitate alignment of communications strategies/plans across the organization
- 7. Develops digital and social media content, including the development and production of the CIHI podcast. Monitors and evaluates media and social media coverage, engagement, and activities
- 8. Develops and implements communications strategies for the public release of CIHI products and reports.
- 9. Responsible for the development of communications strategies to inform and engage CIHI’s employees on corporate strategies and initiatives and important product and service strategies. Develops corporate materials, including the annual report, speeches, and presentations
- 10. Works collaboratively with CIHI’s marketing department to develop multi-faceted marketing & communications strategies to promote CIHI and the value of health data to CIHI’s target personas, key stakeholders and internal staff.
- 11. Builds and sustains effective relationships both internally and externally
- What you'll bring to the table
- Degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
- Seasoned communication professional with 5-7 years experience in a broad range of communications areas including media relations, digital content, social media, story telling in various formats, podcast development, etc.
- Minimum of 3 years experience leading and managing teams.
- Extensive experience managing projects with a high level of accountability for their completion. Demonstrated experience in developing, executing and measuring successful communications strategies
- Proven experience in issues management.
- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent coaching, consulting and negotiating skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Attention to detail, and ability to organize and multi-task.
- Knowledge of health sector issues/challenges.
