As the Director of Financial Policy, no two days will be the same You will be responsible for corporate financial management and financial control policies. Your work will require creative responses to issues that may not have a precedent. You will report to, and be supported by, the Executive Director, Financial Accounting and Standards. As a unit, your team will aim to promote government accountability through the development and interpretation of financial policies that are applied government wide. Issues brought forward often become projects where you will be required to coordinate several moving parts with many stakeholders. This exciting environment will provide you with the opportunity to influence process, and advise the most senior levels of government. You will also be responsible for the development and continuous improvement of processes to review new and current government financial policies. Your leadership will help to shape our work.- Provide leadership and guidance to a team of financial policy specialists.
- Work with various internal and external stakeholders to support the development of financial policies.
- Provide financial policy advice and direction on various cross-government initiatives.
- Consult with legal counsel on the interpretation of legal frameworks pertaining to financial management.
- Work with/provide advice to the Deputy Minister’s/Minister’s Office to manage issues as they arise.
- Coordinate and liaise with the Office of the Auditor General on their performance audit reports.
- Provide secretarial support to the Provincial Audit Committee, including providing training/updates to the Senior Financial Officers’ (SFO) Council, and the Finance Leadership Committee.

**Qualifications**:
Post-secondary degree in accounting, business, finance, public administration or other related discipline combined with a minimum of seven years' experience in financial policy, which includes the processes required to develop financial policies (i.e. research and analysis, interpretation of existing policies and providing advice) and the understanding of how decisions are made, and policies approved in a government environment.

An accounting designation, Masters of Business Administration or Masters of Public Administration and experience managing or supervising a team is desirable.

Experience in policy development and strong project management skills would be considered assets.
- Experience working with financial related legislation would also be considered an asset, for example knowledge of the following legislative authorities:
- Financial Administration Act
- Sustainable Fiscal Planning and Reporting Act
- Government Organization Act
- Auditor General Act
- Alberta Public Agencies Governance Act

Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.

This is a permanent, full-time position working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
