**Executive Assistant to Member of Provincial Parliament/Parliamentary Assistant**

**Position Summary**:
Performs a variety of research, communication, and administrative functions in support of the day-to-day operations of the Queen’s Park and constituency offices for the MPP.

For example, some activities include: research, analysis, and briefing the MPP on a variety of issues; creating reports, speeches, questions for the House, news releases, newsletters, and correspondence; managing the schedule; staffing MPP at all meetings/events; managing stakeholder and media relations; and events planning.

This is an entry level position. Training will be provided.

**Duties and responsibilities**:
Legislative Research
- performs research on legislation and issues before the House or committees
- collects, analyzes and summarizes materials to produce briefings
- reviews legislation, committee reports, position papers and background information
- briefs minister for question period, committee meetings, caucus meetings, or meetings with delegations
- attends and/or monitors house sittings and committee meetings to keep informed of issues
- monitors issues and maintain contact with stakeholders
- maintain current reference files and prepares replies to policy inquiries in support of the member

Constituency Responsibilities
- liaise with constituency and riding stakeholders to communicate issues, listen to concerns, help to resolve local issues and to coordinate work for projects
- keep member informed of issues and local reaction to government policy

Communications
- oversee preparation of correspondence on a broad range of topics from the members office to constituents, business contacts, and members of the public
- maintain media list and develop relations with key local media
- distribute news releases and respond to media requests
- work with other MPP offices and PC caucus services to ensure message consistency
- build and support relations between the Member/PA and his or her fellow Members of the Legislature
- plan events
- maintaining databases and filing systems and assisting with large mailings, Christmas cards etc.

**Experience/Education**:

- undergraduate degree
- related experience in policy analysis and familiarity with current political issues and events
- political and/or community service experience is an asset

**Qualifications**:

- general office administration knowledge and experience is required
- strong research and analytical skills
- strong and versatile written and verbal communication skills
- ability to use judgment and discretion in the release of information
- detail oriented and able to work independently
- confidently handles requests from multiple sources and determines the appropriate course of action and priority, where necessary
- strong computer skills

**Salary**: $50,000.00-$55,000.00 per year

Schedule:

- Monday to Friday

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Toronto, ON M5T 2K8: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

**Education**:

- Secondary School (preferred)

Work Location: In person
