**THE ROLE**
- Monitor, maintain, and administer standard operating protocols to protect the campus community
- Manage third-party security guards, including collaboration to support timely recruitment, training, onboarding, and performance management
- Provide direction to the onsite security supervisor, ensuring human resources legislation and school policies are adhered to
- Oversee campus emergency preparedness, including compliance (via RiskCheck), drills, physical resources across campus, and training
- Ensure timely communication, follow-up, audit, and update the processes, protocols, and training documentation
- Work professionally and collegially with all campus stakeholders and community emergency response offices, including local police, the school’s liaison officer, and fire departments
- Act as an active member of the risk management, JHSC, and monthly event management committees
- Coordinate and make recommendations for access control hardware, software, communications, and cameras, and provide backup for programming, working closely with the IT department.
- Receive video recording requests and follow appropriate procedures
- Proactively engage in traffic support at peak times
- Provide safety and security expertise and advice to senior management
- Oversee campus parking, including employee and student parking pass processes, raising issues as appropriate
- Investigate incidents involving illegal or prohibited activity on campus. Coordinate with local authorities and internal stakeholders, as directed by the leadership team
- Coordinate, make recommendations, and maintain risk-related contracts and the security section of the Appleby website
- Consult with other independent schools to create and maintain excellent working relationships
- Support security management company RFPs, escalations, audits, reviews, and other administrative procedures
- Provide urgent reception and/or administrative back-up and other duties as required

**WHAT YOU BRING**
- Post-secondary education in law enforcement or relevant field
- Associate Protection Professional certification is considered an asset
- Licensed security professional certificate
- First Aid / CPR-C / AED and/or Joint Health and Safety Certification is considered an asset
- Previous administrative experience related to the duties and responsibilities of a peace officer
- Previous experience in public safety and emergency management, preferably at a school
- A valid Ontario driver’s license with clean driving records
- Proven leadership and ability to foster a cooperative and consultative work environment.
- Ability to make decisions quickly in emergency situations and communicate effectively
- Demonstrated, excellent people management skills
- Must exemplify integrity, accountability and demonstrate strong business acumen and decision-making that is appropriate for the Appleby community.
- Excellent technical skills as well as experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent organizational skills, flexibility, and time-management skills.
