**Job Summary**:
We are seeking a Junior Construction Estimator to join our team.

The Junior Estimator / Coordinator is responsible for the analysis of drawings, specifications, material takeoffs, and detailed scope of work for tendering, budgeting, and full cost estimates, including materials and labour. This position also provides assistance in evaluating all bids, preparing contract documents, issuing PO’s, completing project set up, and other office coordinator duties.

**Reporting Relationships**:

- Responsible to and work under the direction of Senior Estimator/Coordinator: Mauricio Muriel.

**Areas of Accountability**:

- Prepare and/or coordinate the preparation of full cost estimates on conceptual, design-build, or general tender work.
- Prepare materials, labour, and equipment cost estimations necessary to successfully carry out a construction project according to proposals, plans, estimates, specifications, and scope of work.
- Prepare time, cost, and labour estimates for projects.
- Review all final estimate packages to ensure accuracy and completeness, prior to formal quotation.
- Analysis of drawings, specifications, material takeoffs, and detailed scope of work for tendering.
- Generate bidders list and initiate tendering process.
- Advise on proposal procedures to follow, study, and analyze proposals received, recommend/reject proposals and negotiate contracts.
- Evaluate and recommend allowances for indirect costs, design unknowns, escalation, and contingency.
- Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures, including current (accurate) information on prices from suppliers through direct contact, sales brochures, price lists, etc.
- Maintain computer databases (cost comparisons, specifications, correspondence, etc.)
- May review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.
- Determine least cost/best value vendors, suppliers, and materials.
- Oversee the review of new products or suppliers for improved quality and cost effectiveness.
- Set up project, input contract details, and generate and approve purchase orders.
- Prepare and maintain a list of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors on per project basis.
- Determine cost and feasibility of customer requested design changes.
- Price and process customer requested design changes.
- Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures for customer design changes.
- Assist the Director of Construction and Superintendent, where applicable, in the day to day duties of a project’s administration.
- Assist in plan and specification analysis in order to provide clear, trackable, and coordinated interpretations of the design/drawings for construction.
- Research and recommend solutions to design document problems, including conflicts, interferences, and errors/omissions.
- Act as liaison with subcontractors in expediting drawings and related information.
- Participate in the continuous updating and accurate generation of as-built documents and other documents, as requested.
- Assist with the research and preparation of field change requests to resolve design issues.
- Prepare drawings and sketches to support construction work as required.
- Understand and perform document control functions in accordance with on-site policy and procedures, including tracking and creating of RFIs, transmitting and tracking of submittals, compose agreements, and maintain project expediting list.
- Attend project coordination and owner/contractor/architect/engineer meetings as requested or required.
- Site visits, as required.
- Assist as necessary when dealing with customers, clients, and trades.

**Education & Experience**:

- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in construction/engineering degree, or an appropriate field.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office, Outlook, and Project.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Must speak, read, understand and write English fluently.
