Project Estimation Specialist

As a Senior Estimator at PCL Construction, you will play a key role in leading large estimates that shape the landscape of communities across Edmonton. In this dynamic position, you will work closely with junior estimators to develop their skills and contribute to our team's success.

Key Responsibilities
  • You will conduct thorough analysis of contract documents, including isometric drawings, as-built plans, and engineering specifications, to determine project requirements and ensure compliance with bonding and insurance regulations.
  • Your expertise will be essential in establishing critical path schedules, including milestone dates and completion timelines, to meet contract completion deadlines for large projects.
  • You will lead pricing efforts for general expenses and project-specific requirements on medium to large projects, ensuring accurate and comprehensive estimates.
  • Documenting all relevant information related to estimates and organizing it for seamless transfer to project teams upon successful award is also a vital part of this role.
  • You will conduct risk and opportunity analyses to review by the chief estimator and incorporate findings into the risk register.
  • In collaboration with external consultants and project management organizations, you will estimate project budget requirements and coordinate the tender development process on behalf of clients.
  • Maintaining client project-specific success criteria (CPSSC) and holding the team accountable for achieving these goals are essential aspects of this position.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • You hold a Bachelor's degree in a related field or have equivalent trade experience.
  • You possess extensive knowledge of construction methods, planning, scheduling, sequencing, potential problems, and timelines, and are skilled in identifying and mitigating risks.
  • A strong understanding of bid preparation principles, including quantity take-off procedures, trade contractor procurement, pricing, and bid closing procedures, is crucial.
  • You are an expert in contract terms for various delivery models and can identify contract risks and opportunities.
  • Familiarity with different bid processes and contract delivery types, such as hard bid/lump sum, guaranteed maximum price (GMP), unit price, design-build, target prices, and construction management/cost reimbursable, is necessary.
