Director of Research

**POSITION TYPE**:PERMANENT - FULL-TIME
**LOCATION**:CUPW NATIONAL OFFICE, OTTAWA
**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- works directly under the National President;
- to perform and co-ordinate research and writing in connection with the negotiations of collective agreements;
- to perform research and write briefs for Conciliation Boards, Parliamentary Committees and other official presentations undertaken by the CUPW;
- to perform research and writing on other special projects as requested;
- to contribute written material and co-ordinate the publication of the national journal in the capacity of Associate Editor;
- to assist National Officers in the preparation of press releases, bulletins and other communications;
- to prepare memoranda concerning legislation or other matters;
- to prepare documentation for collective bargaining;
- to prepare files for the preparation of the proposed collective agreement;
- to prepare files and argumentation for Conciliation Boards;
- to prepare any other files and press releases and press conferences;
- to act in the capacity of a “lead hand” for the specialists. As lead hand, he/she will regularly convene meetings of the specialists to co-ordinate the efficient distribution of work. He/she will regularly consult with the appropriate NEC officer to ensure that work is evenly distributed, and assignments are completed in a timely manner.
**QUALIFICATIONS**:
- Post-secondary education or extensive related work and training experience in economics, political science, social innovation, business administration, or related fields;
- Experience in project management;
- Proven research and writing skills;
- Ability to multi-task, set priorities and communicate with all levels of the union and with management;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software: Excel, PowerPoint and Word essential;
- Ability to work well on own and with others;
- A demonstrated commitment to the values of the labour movement through experience in the labour and/or wider social justice movements;**:
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing in both English and French.**_
**ASSETS**
- Experience with committee, board or similar type of work with unions, non-profit or community groups;
- Experience in navigating complex labour/management relationships;
- Any demonstrated background knowledge in the fields of: e-commerce, urban congestion, financial services, regulated markets, or change in networked industries would be considered a plus.

**RESPONSABILITÉS**
- Travailler directement sous la direction de la présidence nationale;

- effectuer la recherche et rédiger des exposés pour les commissions de conciliation, les comités parlementaires et autres présentations officielles que le STTP souhaite effectuer;
- effectuer la recherche et la rédaction dans le cadre d'autres projets spéciaux, conformément aux demandes;
- fournir des articles et coordonner la publication du journal national à titre d'adjoint au rédacteur ou à la rédactrice en chef;
- aider les dirigeantes et dirigeants nationaux à préparer les communiqués de presse, les bulletins et autres publications;
- préparer des notes au sujet des lois ou autres questions;
- préparer la documentation relative à la négociation collective;
- préparer des dossiers en vue de la convention collective;
- préparer des dossiers et des argumentations pour les commissions de conciliation;
- préparer tout autre dossier, communiqué de presse et conférence de presse;
- agir à titre de « chef d'équipe » des spécialistes. En tant que chef d'équipe, il convoque sur une base régulière des rencontres avec les spécialistes pour coordonner la répartition efficace du travail. Il consulte sur une base régulière les membres du Comité exécutif national pour s'assurer de la répartition équitable du travail et du respect des échéances.

- Études postsecondaires ou vaste expérience de travail et de formation professionnelle en économie, en science politique, en innovation sociale, en administration des affaires ou dans des domaines connexes;
- Expérience en gestion de projets;
- Aptitudes reconnues en recherche et en rédaction;
- Aptitude à mener de front plusieurs dossiers, à établir des priorités et à communiquer avec tous les paliers du syndicat et de la direction;
- Maîtrise des logiciels de Microsoft Office : Excel, PowerPoint et Word (essentielle);
- Aptitude à travailler seul ou en équipe;
- Engagement manifeste envers les valeurs du mouvement syndical sous forme d’expérience au sein du mouvement syndical ou du mouvement pour la justice sociale;
