**Job Summary**
The Coordinator of Volunteers develops, plans and co-ordinates the volunteer program in CRD Regional Parks. This position participates in long range planning of volunteer opportunities, establishes volunteer program priorities, supervises volunteers and staff, maintains program relationships, and actively promotes awareness of the volunteer program and projects.

**This position requires a clear criminal record check. The applicant/incumbent will be required to undergo a criminal record check in order to work in this position and to report to their supervisor if any criminal charges are laid against them that may be related to their employment in this position.**

**Qualifications**
- University degree in Recreation, Environmental Studies or a related discipline and two years’ directly related volunteer management experience preferably in a parks environment, OR college diploma in a related field and certification in Volunteer Management and three years’ volunteer management experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Volunteer Management Certificate is an asset.
- Must possess a valid BC Driver’s Licence.

**Typical Duties and Responsibilities**
People working in this role can expect to be responsible for performing the following duties. This list is not meant to be comprehensive and other related duties similar in scope and complexity may be performed.
- Facilitates the planning and implementation of the volunteer program’s goals and objectives and provides recommendations to management.
- Works with regional parks staff, coordinates the planning and implementation of program events, and ensures accessibility and sustainability.
- Coordinates recruitment and training of volunteers.
- Establishes and maintains volunteer guidelines and procedures and ensures all work is performed in accordance with WorkSafeBC regulations and CRD policies and guidelines.
- Provides ongoing volunteer support, mentoring, evaluation, communication and recognition.
- Supervises and schedules auxiliary staff
- Maintains databases for volunteer communications, records, written reports, and statistics.
- Establishes goals and criteria to evaluate effectiveness of volunteers and Volunteer Services and evaluates effectiveness via surveys, interviews, meetings and research.
- Prepares reports, plans, briefs and evaluations.
- Writes and coordinates review and approval of volunteer position descriptions.
- Provides training and support to staff who work directly with volunteers.
- Facilitates dispute resolution related to the volunteer program.
- Research trends in volunteerism and identifies volunteer needs and opportunities.
- Working with the Communications Coordinator, raises awareness of the volunteer program, promotes recruitment through external communications and develops internal communication for volunteers.
- Delivers presentations to internal and external audiences on the volunteer program and initiatives in regional parks and trails.
- Oversees the Regional Parks Legacy program for donations.
- Oversees budget related to the volunteer program and ensures expenditures are appropriate and within established limits.
- Liaises and maintains relationships with other CRD departments and external rightsholders and stakeholders.
- Conducts site visits and in-field training sessions as required.
- Follows all policies, procedures and standards of the CRD. Performs other related duties as required.

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**
- Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and customer service skills are required.
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
- Considerable knowledge of the principles, policies, methods and objectives applicable to developing, implementing and evaluating a variety of volunteer programs, projects and activities, and of volunteer service delivery in the public sector.
- Proficiency and experience with word processing (MS Word), spreadsheets (MS Excel, MS Access) and presentation (MS PowerPoint) software.
- Experience with volunteer management software is an asset.
- Excellent team building and conflict resolution skills
- Ability to coordinate a wide range of volunteer activities, and to anticipate and prepare for future changes or expansion of service delivery.

- Demonstrated ability to complete tasks and projects on time and on budget, and to multi-task.
