**Don’t have every qualification?**
Niagara Region has a temporary part-time Indigenous Relations (IR) Student/Intern position within the Growth, Strategy, and Economic Development Division. This role (up to 35 hours per week) will last for approximately 3 months (October to December 2024), with the possibility of extension based on departmental requirements.
The Indigenous Relations (IR) Student/Intern will assist with finalizing Niagara Region’s ReconciliAction Plan and incorporating Indigenous Relations into the work of Niagara Region. The ReconciliAction Plan is aimed at building relationships between Indigenous community members and settlers, providing education to staff and Councilors, increasing Indigenous recruitment and retention, and engaging in collaborative planning, evaluation, and delivery of programs and services.
**Specific responsibilities include;**
- Scheduling of meetings and minute taking
- Supporting inclusive communication of significant dates
- Supporting community engagement for the ReconciliAction Plan
- Assisting with evaluation and writing reports
**KNOWLEDGE**:
- Knowledge of Indigenous history, culture and heritage
- Understanding of quantitative and qualitative research methods
**SKILLS**
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
- Ability to work well in a team, as well as self-directed and/or with mínimal supervision
- Self-motivated, confident, and responsible
- Ability to handle confidential data, information, and sensitive issues
- Demonstrated project management and time management skills
- Successful at event planning and management
- Experience with research, evaluation, and report writing
**QUALIFICATIONS**
**EDUCATION**
- Completion of an Ontario High School Diploma or equivalency (i.e. GED) is required, plus:
- Returning to or enrolled in a post-secondary program in one of the following, or a related academic field: Community Health, Social Sciences, Humanities; a Master’s program is preferred,or,
- Must have successfully completed one of the related programs listed above within the last 12 months (or successfully complete prior to starting the position)
**SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS**
- Must be registered as a youth with NPAAMB upon hire
- Must self-identify as Indigenous to Turtle Island
- Must be eligible to work in Canada
- Must provide proof of successful completion of high school or equivalency, ie. GED
- Must provide proof of enrollment in a related post-secondary program (student/co-op) or completion of a related post-secondary program (intern) prior to October 2024
- Must be available to start work (October - December 2024)
- Salary Range: $19.57 - $21.08
