The SEPI branch is a centre of excellence within the Consultation, Land and Policy CLP division. SEPI provides a strong foundation of policy development, strategic engagement, expert advice and relationship building through engagement, education, training, and capacity funding to ensure Alberta fulfills its duty to consult in matters related to land and natural resource management while considering the needs of all parties; including partner ministries, Indigenous communities and organizations, industry, municipalities and regulators.

**Key Responsibilities Include**:
- Lead or co-lead Crown-led projects and initiatives focused on Indigenous engagement.
- Facilitate active Indigenous involvement in land use plans, policies, and resource development.
- Establish and maintain relationships with Indigenous communities, Elders, and government staff.
- Provide guidance on engagement protocols for First Nations and Métis communities.
- Utilize strong evaluative and critical thinking skills to develop evidence-based recommendations.
- Communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely to diverse audiences.

**Qualifications**:
A University degree in a related field (Natural Resources, Environmental Management, Environmental Sciences, Indigenous Studies, Public Policy, History, Political Science, Geography, Law, Anthropology, etc.) supplemented by a minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible related experience is required.
**Equivalency**: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
**Required Experience**:
- Project management experience, including planning and execution.
- Written communication experience, including reports and documentation.
- Public participation or stakeholder engagement processes.
- Research and analysis experience in policy or resource management.
**Assets**
- Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous peoples, governance, culture, history, and community dynamics.
- Familiarity with historical and current legislation impacting First Nations and Métis peoples in Alberta and Canada.
- In-depth knowledge of engagement planning, public participation, and issues management techniques.
- Established networks with Indigenous communities, including specialized training or lived experience.
- Understanding of current land and natural resource management practices in Alberta, including economic development opportunities.
