The City of Edmonton’s City Operations Department is seeking a Public Engagement Advisor interested in environmental sustainability. This 11-month position is a career opportunity to lead city-shaping public engagement supporting key Waste Services initiatives.

The advisor’s primary role will be leading public engagement for the next iteration of the Waste Reduction Roadmap, a major initiative** **that will help Waste Services achieve its 2044 goal of a 20 percent reduction in waste generated per capita.

**Waste Reduction Roadmap ‘30** will be a continuation of Roadmap ‘24 which supports Edmonton’s 25-year Waste Strategy by identifying programs, services and regulations that would reduce waste being produced by residents, businesses, public institutions and other organizations.

This position will also provide support for the **Industrial, Commercial and Institutional (ICI) Waste Roadmap**. This project will** **engage non-residential ICI-sector stakeholders plus internal stakeholders to produce a four-year (2027-2030) ICI Roadmap.

**What will you do?**

Using your breadth of knowledge about best practices in public engagement and relationship building, you will support two project teams in the planning, implementing, analysis and evaluation of public engagement processes. You will succeed in this role if you approach challenges with a curious, tenacious and service-minded attitude. Here are some of the key responsibilities:

- Consult with the project team to create detailed public engagement plans with achievable strategies, action plans and timelines
- Create strategies and action plans for public engagement
- Identify resource requirements and timelines for public engagement
- Implement both digital and in-person public engagement activities including the selection of approaches, tools and techniques and developing engagement material
- Encourage and evaluate engagement participation
- Gather, analyze and share public engagement feedback
- Work with project teams, colleagues and community partners to build respectful and meaningful relationships
- Provide guidance and support to external public engagement consultants as required
- Perform other related duties as required

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences, Community Development, Planning, Communications or Public Relations, or a related field

**Assets**:

- International Association of Public Participation (IAP2) or other formal training in public engagement
- Proficient in using Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs and Google Meet; an aptitude for learning other software
- Experience planning and delivering engagement events; facilitation experience

**Skills required for success**:

- Ability to work respectfully, collaboratively and strategically in large, cross-functional teams
- Ability to develop relational trust and manage conceptual projects in a complex environment
- Experience with inclusive approaches to engagement (e.g., Gender Based Analysis)
- Experience managing and evaluating consultant teams
- Experience analyzing and summarizing data as well as writing reports
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
