**JOB SUMMARY**:
Lantic is currently recruiting for the position of Refining Manager, reporting to the Production Manager and based at our Montreal refinery. The Refining Manager plans, organizes and controls all refining operations (melting, decolorization, crystallization of refineries, purification, development and production of by-products, etc.) by conveying the values of the organization, and this with an outlook of achieving organizational objectives and optimization of resources. The incumbent respects, as part of his/her duties, the occupational health and safety rules, the good operating practices and the food reliability rules in force.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Ensure the physical integrity of the employees within each department, control compliance to Occupational Health and Safety rules and with the rules established by the organization;
- Ensure compliance to deadlines and corrections that must be addressed after an accident or mishap;
- Ensure the ongoing process operations to meet the objectives of each department by establishing a plan for the workforce, by determining the necessary training and by implementing necessary tools;
- Participate in the elaboration and the implementation of a competency development plan for all supervisors and employees and take all the necessary means to transfer competency and expertise;
- Develop fair and harmonized work relations;
- Get involved in critical situations;
- Develop team spirit and ensure the development of a proper functioning within each department;
- Make recommendations for change related to process and ensure sanitary conditions and order on the premises (GOP);
- Implement mechanisms that will guarantee the availability of raw materials and proper functioning of the equipment;
- Ensure development and improvement of the departments, and ensure the integrity of the continuous improvement procedures (PDCA);
- Establish proper control of budgets of the sectors and proceed to multiple analyses allowing the use of resources at the best possible cost;
- Communicate with the supervisors regarding the departmental expectations and objectives;
- Identify the needs in terms of personnel within each sector, in collaboration with the labour-planning agent;
- Obtain an optimal performance within the sectors and prepare preventive shutdowns;
- Be responsible when capital projects are carried out;
- Plan and coordinate operations within the sector;
- Ensure product quality by controlling compliance to the current quality standards upon product transformation;
- Be in charge of putting in place a rigorous technical process;
- Maintain the good flow of information within the departments and create direct contact with union delegates;
- Facilitate and take part in the supervisors and employees’ meetings;
- Be a member of the Energy Committee and Process Management Committee, and take part in the operations meetings;
- Any other duties as required.
**QUALIFICATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED**:
- Bachelors’ Degree in Chemistry, in Chemical or Mechanical engineering, or in Food Science and Technology, or equivalent
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, chemical/mechanical engineering, food science and technology or equivalent experience;
- Seven (7) to ten (10) years of experience in operations management and in the field of food production;
- Experience in personnel management in a unionized environment and skills in dealing with a union;
- Good knowledge of the manufacturing process;
- Good knowledge of production management;
- Bilingualism (spoken and written) in order to be able to communicate with our English and French speaking sites;
- Ability to develop a budget;
- Good computer skills (MS Office);
- Good problem-solving skills; good communication, interpersonal, decision-making and planning skills;
- Good sense of responsibility and stress management
- Ability to mobilize based on Lantic’s vision and create a sense of belonging.
