**Position Summary**

Reporting to the Executive Director of Programs, and working closely with the SH Leadership team, the Shelter Manager ensures the safe, welcoming, and sustainable operations of the 24/7 Shelter program. Responsible for leading, managing, and supporting Shelter staff with an inclusive and collaborative management style. Responsible to design, implement, and maintain necessary systems, policies, and procedures. Responsible for managing resources, budgets, and facilities while providing accessible support and services to people accessing the Shelter program. Providing guidance and support to the Supervisors and Team Lead positions as they assist people on their housing and recovery journeys.

Job Duties
- Develop, implement, and maintain all Shelter operations, policies, logistics, and Standards of Conduct in collaboration with other relevant Program Managers
- Direct, lead, coach and mentor the Shelter Leadership Team
- Responsible for the recruitment of the Shelter Leadership Team
- Conduct performance reviews for Shelter Leadership Team members in compliance with SH's policy
- Ensure Leadership Team receives all the training necessary to meet their job expectations, including managing and supervising staff and achieving results through others
- Foster a collaborative work environment ensuring all staff are empowered to use and develop their skills and play to their strengths
- Oversee the development and implementation of the new service delivery model to align with shelter and organizational objectives
- Manager and supervise Leadership Team to ensure effective program delivery and adherence to organizational goals and focus on housing and recovery outcomes for shelter guests
- Lead the implementation of current and future strategic plans and support the restructuring of shelter services as needed to improve program delivery and efficacy
- Continuously seek funding opportunities to support the organization's projects and initiatives
- Ensure follow up to any actions resulting from the Joint Health & Safety Committee meetings
- Collaborate with staff to identify areas for program improvement and modification to meet the needs of clients
- Serve as a representative of Safe Harbour on community committees, actively participating in collaborative efforts to address homelessness and addictions issues in the community
- Utilize the database to provide accurate and timely statistics to governing bodies, demonstrating the organization's essential role in providing services
- Serve as a voice for the organization

**Qualifications**:

- Minimum 3-5 years' experience working in front line social service delivery
- Minimum 3 years direct managerial and supervisory experience of a group of front line social service staff
- Post secondary education or training in social service work, counseling, or related social sciences is an asset
- Demonstrated leadership skills, budget management, and program management abilities
- Flexibility required for schedule and hours, must be flexible in responding to emergencies, including after hours, via phone or in person
- Alignment with the SH mission, vision and guiding principles
- Knowledge of Red Deer's supports and services, proven ability to navigate the social welfare, public health, and justice systems, particularly in the areas of poverty reduction, housing, emergency medical care, detox and addictions services, and counseling
- An understanding of the inherent issues the SH clients face daily
- Excellent interpersonal skills (de-briefing, active listening, conflict resolution, de-escalation, problem solving, supportive) is essential
- Excellent understanding and experience in creating and maintaining boundaries and supporting staff in doing the same
- Demonstrated ability to build a strong team environment with an inclusive, collaborative and supportive management approach
- A combination of practical experience and/or education may be considered
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Proficient use of computers, Microsoft 365 and any other database software used to track service delivery
- Strong strategically - focused analytical skills, good common sense, and capacity to provide leadership
- Must demonstrate initiative and work autonomously

While this position does not normally consist of front-line work, it is important to know that front-line staff are exposed to emotionally disturbing events, such as: medical distress, threatened/actual serious injury, violence, abuse, and death; where clients may be experiencing fear, terror, hopelessness, rage, self-harm, and conflict. It is understood and accepted that you will be working in distress and/or high stress situations, which may include an emergency response. It is imperative that resiliency and stress tolerance and the ability to maintain composure, remain calm and focused is demonstrated. Exposure to bodily fluids may also occur.
