We are looking for a Business Services Officer to support our Ocean, Coastal and River Engineering (OCRE) Research Centre. The Business Services Officer would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

The Business Services Officer is expected to work closely with Business Development Officer to support the business management activities of their assigned Research Center. The Business Services Officer will be primarily responsible for developing routine client technical service opportunities delegated to him/her by the Business Development Officer as well as opportunities for Other Technical Services arising from the Research Centre. The incumbent will also review and assess inbound opportunities from the NRC call centre and website and recommend further action to other members of the business development team. She/he will be expected to take the lead on routine opportunities while Business Development Officers will take the lead on more complex opportunities. The Business Services Officer will also provide support to overall business development and marketing activities such as:

- Determines if incoming inquiry (NRC website or Call Center) is a routine Technical Service opportunity by determining client’s needs based on NRC’s expertise where the output is in the form of data and reports.
- Follows guidance of Business Development Officers in developing assigned opportunities by liaising directly with clients, connecting clients to the appropriate researcher(s) to develop the statements of work. This includes identifying the appropriate researcher, collaboratively developing statements of work and deliverables for projects and ensuring that project descriptions meets the needs of the client, reviewing the project costing prepared by the researcher, determining the price and negotiating the price and other contract terms with the client.
- Provides guidance to scientific staff on proposal preparation, reviews proposals and project costing sheets provided by Project Managers and determines prices based on NRC pricing guidelines and standards.
- Works with Contract Coordinators to prepare contracts based on standard agreement templates. Negotiates pricing directly with clients or provides information to Business Development Officers to support them in the negotiation.
- Ensures that Business Development Officers are kept informed throughout the process of developing opportunities.
- Ensures that updates on all assigned opportunities are entered in NRC’s Client Relationship Management system on a timely basis.
- Supports the business development team with other activities, e.g. reports and analysis from the CRM, preparing marketing collateral and preparing for conferences.
- Maintains a network of internal contacts to regularly benchmark and remain current on best practices, policies, and guidelines related to business development and client services.
- May be asked to provide support to the Business Development Officer regarding marketing and outreach by preparing materials for trade shows.

**Education**:

- A Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering or Business Administration
- An equivalent combination of a Bachelor’s degree in another field with relevant experience may be considered.
- A Master’s degree in Business Administration would be considered an asset for this position.

**Experience**:

- Experience working with multiple stakeholders such as clients, Program Leaders, Researchers and Technical Officers, Finance Officers etc.
- Experience closing sales opportunities
- Experience anticipating issues on projects before they arise and work proactively to address them.
- Experience and familiarity with contracts considered an asset;
- Experience working with a CRM an asset
