**Coordinator, Northern and Indigenous Sustainable Energy Initiatives**:
At the School of Environment and Sustainability (SENS), we value and foster relationships with partner organizations and communities. The mission of the Energy Security stream of the Master of Sustainability Degree program (MSs) is to empower a network of northern, Indigenous, remote, and career professionals through distance education and purpose-driven practical experience to lead sustainable community energy development. Demands are growing for community energy planners in First Nation, Métis, and Northern communities and this program provides graduates with the skills to lead the development of energy projects that provide renewable energy options and maximize social and economic benefits to local communities.

**Primary Purpose**:
The Coordinator, Northern and Indigenous Sustainable Energy Initiatives provides administrative support 1) to the SENS Energy Security program, with a focus on building community partnerships and on student recruitment and retention, across Yukon, Northwest Territories, and Nunavut, and 2) to fundraising efforts for SENS Energy Security program and public engagement activities, with a focus on building stakeholder relations with federal, territorial, and Indigenous governments and agencies, as well as industry and utility partners.

**Nature of Work**:
Reporting to the Executive Director of the dynamic and growing School of Environment and Sustainability, the successful applicant works collaboratively with and communicates with a wide range of stakeholders, including faculty, staff, prospective students, current students and community partners including not only First Nation, Métis, and Northern communities, but also federal, territorial, and Indigenous governments and agencies, as well as industry and utility partners. This position works in a team environment to help develop and implement highly effective student recruitment, student retention, community engagement, stakeholder partnership, and fundraising strategies for the MSs Energy Security stream and related outreach activities. The work requires a mastery of curricular, programmatic, and admissions-related details (pertaining to graduate studies) and an ability to render them clear and accessible to many types of audiences on campus and off, in person and through high-impact communications across multiple media. The work is demanding, multifaceted and often time-sensitive.

This position requires an open mind, innovative thinking, good judgement, good communications skills, and a strong commitment to creating an exceptional student experience. The position also requires an ability to collaborate effectively, forge beneficial partnerships, and an awareness of the culture and practices of the First Nation, Métis, and Northern communities with which the work will be done. The successful applicant must be adept and highly effective in representing the School and University in many different settings before different audiences.

**Typical Duties or Accountabilities**:

- Help develop and manage the strategic student recruitment and enrolment plan for the SENS MSs Energy Security stream in consultation with the Executive Director.
- Develop and articulate key recruiting messages and develop and employ a suite of recruiting tools, in consultation with the Executive Director and the Energy Security program leads.
- Act as one of the primary contacts for the day-to-day support needs of SENS students, and work with other members of the SENS team to provide advice and guidance to students about admission, registration, academic regulations, academic policies and program requirements.
- Work with First Nation, Métis, and Northern communities to ensure that SENS engages appropriately end effectively when recruiting in Indigenous communities.
- Develop and maintain effective and ongoing relationships with Federal, Provincial and local agencies, academia, industry, community partners, and other key stakeholders.
- Help develop and implement fundraising strategies for federal, provincial and local agencies, academia, industry, community partners, and other key stakeholders.
- Facilitate meetings with the various stakeholders and outreach initiatives for Indigenous communities.

**Education**:
An undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

**Experience**:
One to two years of related experience, preferably in a post-secondary environment. Experience in establishing productive working relationships with a variety of external stakeholders, including community partners and Indigenous communities. Familiarity with First Nation, Métis, and Northern communities is required. Knowledge of the university’s academic and administrative structures and processes are an asset. Knowledge about renewable energy and environmental and sustainability issues are desirable.
