Financial Controller for Startup

**Key Responsibilities**:

- **Budget Management and Cost Control**: Execute diligent budget management and cost control practices, closely monitoring project expenses and implementing measures to align with financial targets and operational efficiency.
- **Cash Flow Oversight**: Manage cash flow effectively, ensuring sufficient funds are available for project execution and operational needs, with strategic forecasting to anticipate future financial requirements.
- **Project Financial Management and RFP Proposals**: Lead the financial aspects of project management, including the development of budgets and financial forecasts. Responsible for writing the financial bid sections of RFPs, ensuring competitive and accurate proposals that align with project goals and client expectations.
- **Strategic Financial Planning**: Utilize financial data and trend analysis to inform strategic business decisions, identifying opportunities for growth and potential financial risks.
- **Quoting and Invoicing**: Generate precise quotes for government projects and oversee the invoicing process through QuickBooks, ensuring all financial transactions are accurately recorded and invoices are issued timely.
- **Payment and Status Monitoring**: Vigilantly monitor the status of invoices and payments, pursuing outstanding receivables to maintain a stable cash flow and ensure prompt revenue recognition.
- **Job Costing**: Implement and manage job costing systems to accurately track project expenses, analyze profitability, and ensure costs are allocated correctly against project budgets, facilitating precise financial reporting and decision-making.

**Preferred Qualifications and Experience**:

- **Educational Background**: A diploma or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Additional certifications in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) or project management are advantageous.
- **Experience Level**: 2-4 years of experience in financial roles with direct involvement in budget management, financial reporting, and cash flow oversight. Prior experience in a small business or startup environment is highly desirable, highlighting adaptability and a broad skill set.
- **Software Proficiency**: Strong proficiency in QuickBooks or similar accounting software for managing invoices, payments, and financial reporting. Familiarity with Microsoft Excel or similar tools for financial analysis and reporting.
- **Cost Accounting Skills**: Proficiency in cost accounting, with the ability to implement and manage job costing systems that track project expenses accurately against budgets, enhancing financial control and project profitability.

The company is B2G (business to government), providing a variety of services and goods to the governments in Canada (municipal, provincial, and federal).

**Salary**: $19.00-$28.00 per hour

Expected hours: 30 - 35 per week
