We are seeking a Pension Administrator to join our BPA team in Halifax.

Pension Administrator is responsible for all aspects of administration necessary to ensure the continuous efficient operation of all BPA Atlantic clients’ pension plan arrangements and that the assigned plans are administered in compliance with established procedures and the Provincial and Federal legislations.
**The Pension Administrator will**:

- Communicate with members, employers, union representatives, Plan actuaries, Plan auditors and custodians regarding benefit entitlements; administration procedures or interpretations of plan provisions.
- Determine entitlements on death, disability, retirement, termination of membership, purchase of past service pension benefits and marriage breakdown benefits for all pension plans in accordance with specific Plan provisions, government legislation requirements and current service standards.
- Peer review of benefit entitlements determined/authorized by other team members within the department.
- Maintain up-to-date records both paper and electronic of all transactions processed.
- Authorize payment of benefit entitlements and plan expenses from Custodian.
- Assists to ensure quality control of year-end input data and verification of computer output at all stages of production, including annual pension statements and actuarial data.
- Preparation and filing of government forms including Annual Information Returns, etc.
- Prepares and produces all clients’ annual member pension statements along with the Manager Pension
- Receives guidance and direction from the Manager Pensions along with the Senior Pension Administrator.
- Communicates with the Pension Fund Custodian, Plan Actuaries, Plan Auditors and Lawyers.
- Deals directly with Pension Plan participants/members, their spouses or beneficiaries, Union Reps and Trustees regarding Pension Plan benefit information.
- Works cooperatively with the Consultants, Accounting, Claims and Administration Departments within the office and as required the Pension Department at our Head Office location.

**To be successful as a Pension Administrator **with BPA, you will need**:

- Minimum secondary school graduate, post secondary education preferred.
- Demonstrated mathematical aptitude.
- Exposure to office administration and clerical processes particularly related to data analysis and interpreting complex legal documents/legislation.
- Three to five years pension administration experience would be an asset.
- Strong mathematical and analytical abilities.
- Acquire and keep current detailed knowledge of the each of the Pension Plan Provisions and the applicable pension contribution rates as per Collective Agreements for all Clients.
- Acquire and keep current detailed working knowledge of BPA Pension systems and related PC based systems.
- Working knowledge of appropriate actuarial computations and benefit analysis.
- Thorough knowledge of Federal and Provincial Legislation pertaining to Pension Plans. (i.e.: Income Tax Act, PBSA (Federal), PBA (Provincial), Family Law Act, etc.)
- Familiarity with pension plan annual filing requirements/procedures and applicable forms.
