**JOB PURPOSE**

Provides leadership and strategic direction in the acquisition, stewardship and annual giving growth of United Way’s relationships with individual and corporate donors via Direct Mail and tele fundraising channels. Working closely with the Fundraising, Marketing, and Community Investment teams, the Direct Donor Strategist will lead the planning, coordinating and execution of Direct Mail campaigns for individual and corporate donors, consult on individual donor stewardship, and oversee tele fundraising efforts.

**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREA**: Direct Mail Management**
- Develops and implements corporate and individual Direct Mail annual plans
- Develops and executes Direct Mail donor acquisition strategies and plans, analyzing performance and making subsequent recommendations
- Responsible for donor profiling of current and lapsed individual and corporate Direct Mail donors and to develop and implement strategies for revenue growth
- Accountable for portfolio revenue goals
- Conduct a cost/benefit analysis for each campaign, as well as regular assessment of the program to maximize return on investment
- Conduct or review research on prospective donors
- Coordinate with external vendors in execution of Direct Mail Mailings, including but not limited to copywriters, graphic designers, print and production houses
- Monitor competitor performance in Direct Mail space
- Comply with all departmental budgeting processes.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREA: Direct to Donor Stewardship and retention**
- Working closely with Digital Advancement Team, collaborates on retention and stewardship strategies
- Coordinate and monitor individual donor telefundraising efforts for DM and Workplace donors
- Develops retention and reactivation strategies for corporate partners no longer engaged in workplace campaigns
- Develops individual gift growth strategies in conjunction with philanthropy and digital development team to drive individual gift growth
- Identify Planned Giving and Major Giving prospects and work collaboratively with the Philanthropy Department to nurture future gifts
- Track and manage donor databases including changes, donor preferences, etc.
- Collaborate with Digital Advancement team in creative and content calendar and campaign messaging
- Monitor and evaluate the strategies implemented to ensure objectives are met

**KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREA: Prospect Researching**
- Working closely with Provincial Director, identifying individual, workplace and corporate prospects
- Developing organizational profiles of prospect partnerships
- Working closely with the Digital Advancement Team and external vendors, researching and identifying new donor prospecting tools

**General**
- Works with external vendors and suppliers
- Collaborates with other departments in attainment of portfolio, departmental and organizational objectives
- Performs other duties related to the qualifications and requirements of the job

**QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS**:
**Education**:

- Post-secondary degree in business, nonprofit management, digital marketing, or related field
- CFRE accreditation an asset

**Experience**:

- Five years recent experience in a direct to donor fundraising capacity, including experience in annual giving and direct mail as experience in business case development and cost/benefit analysis
- Budget management and project management skills are essential for this position
- Experience gathering, analyzing and making informed decisions through data
- Sales experience and experience as a United Way Campaign Associate are assets
- Supervisory experience and experience working with volunteers at various levels throughout the community are preferred
- An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered

**Skills**:

- Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to exercise a high level of tact and discretion in both internal and external interactions.
- Ability to create and maintain good working relationships with a variety of internal and external constituents.
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Additional languages are an asset.
- Must be familiar with cost/benefit analysis and be able to present results from a financial, marketing and technical perspective.
- Must bring a data driven mindset
- Able to effectively communicate with suppliers on behalf of UWLM and to negotiate costs for services.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office programs

**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- Some hours outside of business hours (Monday - Friday) to attend meetings and events
