**Position Status**:Full Time (40 hours/week), 1 Year Contract with Possibility of becoming permanent

**The Organization**

Rupertsland Institute (RLI) is an affiliate of the Métis Nation of Alberta and has a triple mandate in education, training, and research. With a decentralized network of 10 METI-Service Centres, a Corporate Head Office in Edmonton, and two mobile service units; RLI designs and delivers training and education services to more than 140,000 Alberta Métis.

**The Opportunity**

**Responsibilities**:

- Overall strategy, development and administration of HR programs including recruitment, employee relations, compensation, benefits, performance management, employment legislation and policy interpretation to support RLI objectives.
- Deliver full recruitment services including job postings, sourcing, interviewing, reference checks and employment offers. Conduct orientation and onboarding.
- Oversee the evaluation, classification and rating of occupations and job positions.
- Develop and maintain total compensation programs that will attract and retain a high-quality workforce and drive the performance of the business.
- Manage and administer employee benefit and pension plans and respond to inquires.
- Provide coaching, support, and resources to employees and managers on core HR functions, including recruitment, compensation, performance management, employee relations programs, and interpretation of HR policies and programs, including support to resolve performance and conduct issues.
- Manage workplace conflict, complaints, and investigations, and provide support for mediation and mitigation of performance behavioural issues as needed.
- Conduct exit interviews and coordinate offboarding.
- Create memoranda, correspondence, policies, reports, proposals, job descriptions, letters, and other employment documentation.
- Recommend changes or modifications to existing policies and programs to remain in compliance.
- Manage HR projects as assigned from initiation through a planned management of change and sustainability.
- Work with OHS Committee on Health and Safety policies, procedures, and resources and administer H&S program.
- Ensure the collection of payroll documents and provide HR updates to payroll as required (i.e. new hires, termination, contract changes, salary adjustments etc.).
- Maintain employee files and HR Filing system.
- Travel as required.
- Other duties as required.

**Qualifications**:

- Post-Secondary Degree in Human Resources Management, or Business Administration with an HR focus, is required.
- Certified Professional Human Resources (CPHR) designation, or in progress, is required.
- 3-5 years of experience, including 2-3 years of HR leadership.
- Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people.
- Intimate knowledge of applicable employment legislation.
- Strong interpersonal, relationship building, and negotiation skills.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to produce professional reports, letters, and memos.
- Ability to handle sensitive or confidential information with tact and discretion.
- As this position may have a small team of direct reports in the future, strong leadership skills with ability to motivate, delegate, lead, and develop a team.
- Broad, in-depth and varied knowledge of business organizations, processes, organization design, change management, systems and procedures.
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Suite.
