This is a temporary full-time administration role, reporting to the Director, Innovation Institute, working 35 hours per week at a rate of $42.59/HR. This role will be effective asap and run for 1 calendar year.

The Innovation Institute is the innovation arm of the Research and Innovation Department at Lambton College. A key activity of the department is to support the development and implementation of new and innovative grant funded research projects that address an unmet need within the college and the broader community. Drawing on funding support from Intellectual Property Ontario (IPON), we seek to establish the intellectual property support infrastructure for the College and its clients, and facilitate the management and commercialization of intellectual property for the clients of the Applied Research Departments. Drawing on over 300 partnered research projects per year from our 6 research centres and extensive Lambton Research and Innovation Network; the project seeks to set the best practices for protection and commercialization, build the resources to support this effort, and support our industry clients in their pursuit of successful technology development and commercialization. To support this initiative, the project seeks a dynamic and creative individual with strong initiative, experience with intellectual property management and commercialization within the public sector, and impeccable communication skills to implement this experimental initiative to the benefit of Lambton College, its industry partners, and its affiliated organizations.

The Intellectual Property Development Manager will lead, develop and implement strategies to enhance the successful commercialization of intellectual property created by our research partners and College staff during the course of partnered research projects within the Research and Innovation Department. The role will include the establishment of base processes, procedures, and documentation to support the identification and evaluation of new intellectual property, and evaluate and develop roadmaps for the progression through the phases of protection and commercialization. In addition, the role will require the development of a deep understanding of Ontario’s commercialization environment and key supporting provincial bodies such as IPON, in order to facilitate access to resources for clients and support IP protection and commercialization in Ontario. Finally, the Intellectual Property Development Manager will be responsible for establishing relationships and fostering a culture of innovation and asset building within the research department, its staff, and its clients through the development and execution of outreach and training activities. This is an onsite position at Lambton College in Sarnia, Ontario.

**Specific Accountabilities**:

- Establish strong relationships with SMEs involved in applied research projects across Lambton College’s Research and Innovation Network, with an emphasis on evaluating and providing IP protection and commercialization support services
- Evaluate client needs, triage by knowledge base and support level, and bridge to services and support offered within the research network and Intellectual Property Ontario (IPON)
- Research and evaluate innovation disclosures, develop and manage patent processes, determine commercial potential for innovations, make decisions on technology investments, and develop and execute related marketing and commercialization plans
- Provide technical and project management guidance and IP and commercialization expertise to clients in support of their research projects and Applied Research teams in the process of executing client research projects
- Creatively conceptualize, negotiate, draft, execute, and monitor agreements with stakeholders in support of IP capture, development and commercialization
- Evaluate existing practices and lead the establishment and/or improvement of the College’s Applied Research IP assessment, protection and commercialization process to ensure alignment with best practices for technology transfer
- Contribute to the implementation of an overarching strategy to establish and advance a culture of innovation, IP awareness, IP development, and commercialization within Researchers, Staff, and Students
- Identify opportunities and the business and commercialization case for college investments in prototype development, primary research, and IP protection; including performing market research, establishing and executing IP strategies, building and communicating commercialization strategies, supporting research and development plans, generating licensing leads, and supporting spin-off company creation as appropriate
