Toronto, Canada Wave HQ Full time

We believe small businesses are at the heart of our communities, and championing them is worth fighting for. We empower small business owners to manage their finances fearlessly, by offering the simplest, all-in-one financial management solution they can't live without.

**About the team**:
**About the role**:
The Payroll Compliance Analyst plays a critical role at Wave, responsible for helping ensure our payroll product is built in compliance with applicable regulations.

**You'll make an impact by**:

- Working effectively with product managers, design, engineering, and other functional teams to ensure Wave’s financial products are brought to market responsibly and that related infrastructure comply with regulatory obligations
- Managing employment regulation and compliance research projects
- Reviewing and analyzing wage calculations, tax deductions, and reports to ensure compliance with federal and local laws in both Canada and the United States
- Testing our products on an ongoing basis, identifying and documenting problems, and building plans to address them
- Helping contribute to building and reinforcing a strong culture of compliance across Wave

**You'll thrive here if you**:

- Have processed payroll across multiple places in North America - this is so you have a holistic perspective of what Payroll Compliance actually means. Not just someone who has processed payroll before - but who understands the nuances between different provinces and states, and how to make sure our customers stay compliant through our software. That’s our responsibility to them.
- Are super comfortable navigating payroll softwares and able to identify compliance gaps within them, including what does and doesn’t work, so that you can confidently advise on improvements to be made within our own software.
- Have interest and respect for employment rules and regulations as well as eagerness to innovate and drive the industry forward.
- Are proactive in your approach to regulation changes and solutions.
- Have exceptional communication skills. Our teams are very collaborative and work closely together, we need someone who is comfortable partnering and communicating with both technical and non-technical team members.
- Are highly organized and focused with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Work well both as a team member and individually.
- Are not afraid of taking initiative and can function with autonomy in your work while still being able to get your work done on a deadline without compromising quality.
- Notice the spelling mistake in this posting because the smaller details really stand out to you (just kidding, there isn’t one, but we do really need someone detail oriented).

**Ideally, you would bring**:

- 3+ years of payroll experience working in either payroll processing, employment tax filings, or a prior payroll compliance research role, ideally in a software technology company.
- Strong understanding of US & Canadian employment rules and regulations.
- PCP, FPC or CPP Certification preferred, or enrolled.
- Analytical skills, supported by strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to create and document concise requirements and write user stories.
- Ability to absorb new technologies and product features quickly.
- Understand software product configuration and concepts in implementation.
- Previous experience processing payroll across multiple places in North America.
- Comfortable navigating payroll software and able to identify compliance gaps within them, including what does and doesn’t work, so that you can confidently advise on improvements to be made within our own software.
- Are proactive in your approach to regulation changes and solutions.
- Have exceptional communication skills.
- Highly organized and focused with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Are not afraid of taking initiative and can function with autonomy in your work while still being able to get your work done on a deadline without compromising quality.
- Experience in a software development environment a plus.

**What you can expect from Wave's recruitment team**:

- ** We are here for you**. We will coach and support you through your recruitment process to help you prepare for every step of the way as best as we can - your success is our success.
- ** We help you grow.** We will gladly provide feedback if you ask us, because whether you join our team or not, we hope this will be a positive and valuable experience for you.

At Wave, you’re treated like the incredible human being you are.

**Work From Where You Work Best**:We will always have a welcoming, energizing, and world-class office (in Toronto) with a space for you. Or, if you’re more comfortable working from home, the choice is yours**.**

**We Care About Future You**: You will stretch yourself and you will grow at Wave. You will also be supported on this journey with diverse learning experiences, educational allowances, mentorship, and so much mo
