The** Land Back Coordinator **will be responsible for leading a project of facilitating community engagement, strategic planning and negotiation to support the Tŝilhqot'in Nation in returning its unceded lands, waters and resources (‘_nen'_) to its rightful ownership and control.

**This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge land and resource negotiations in collaboration with the six Tsilhqot'in communities**

The Tŝilhqot'in Nation is a world leader in advancing Indigenous title and rights, as demonstrated by the landmark Aboriginal Title Declaration from the Supreme Court of Canada in 2014. The Nation is implementing a ground-breaking tripartite framework agreement (Gwets'en Nilt'i Pathway Agreement) and the** Tsilhqot'in Nen Team** plays an important role in supporting the Tŝilhqot'in Nation on all matters related to water, lands and resources. An important component of the work is community engagement to ensure that the negotiations and planning are guided by Tŝilhqot'in cultural values and community priorities, and working with the TNG Stewardship Department who oversee operational aspects of lands and resources.

**Specific Roles and Responsibilities**:

- Lead a project to identify and negotiate land returns to the Tŝilhqot'in Nation and its communities, through a variety of different tools;
- Work closely with Tŝilhqot'in Chiefs, Councillors, community and TNG staff to undertake an internal engagement process on land returns, and prepare for negotiations with the Provincial and Federal Crown;
- Facilitate positive community engagement, translate the community input into negotiation strategies and positions that can be reviewed by Tŝilhqot'in leadership, and carry those finalized strategies forward into negotiation tables;
- Lead negotiation efforts with the Provincial and Federal governments, under the direction of the Nen Negotiations Manager and other TNG senior officials;
- Work closely with other TNG departments to ensure that Tŝilhqot'in communities have the information and tools required to strategically plan for land returns;
- Support efforts to engage with other interested parties, and be prepared to coordinate and/or facilitate public engagement as required;
- Design and implement a process whereby lands are returned to the Tŝilhqot'in Nation and its communities in a manner that reflects Tŝilhqot'in values and priorities;
- Support Tŝilhqot'in communities prepare for and begin to administer returned lands, waters and resources; and,
- Other duties as required;
**Qualifications and Professional Competencies**:

- Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills;
- Excellent communication skills including competent public speaking, professional writing and report preparation;
- Proven negotiation skills;
- Demonstrated project-management experience able to keep on time/budget and deliver results;
- Strategic thinker and “doer” with ability to develop and implement strategies and plans based on input from Tsilhqot'in leadership and community members;
- Complete working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint;
- Proven record of successfully leading negotiations with other governments;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Able to maintain confidentiality;
- Valid BC Driver's License, ability and willingness to travel to remote communities and travel to meetings outside of the region as required;
- Flexible work schedule to partake in evening engagement sessions and Nation/community events;
