Health and Safety/ Human Resources Coordinator

Annis O’Sullivan Vollebekk Ltd. (AOV) is a privately-owned, independent, multi-disciplined firm based in Ottawa, Ontario. Founded in 1964, with offices in the Ottawa region. AOV is a professional land surveying firm offering clientele a wide range of services in topographic, hydrographic, cadastral, geodetic LiDAR, Photogrammetric and engineering surveys. AOV also provides a full range of land development consulting services, including severances, subdivision, and condominiums.
Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the Health & Safety/Human Resources Coordinator will have a focus in training, development and health and safety. If you are looking to build your career in a collaborative and fast-paced environment, this could be the role for you.
**Key Accountabilities**
- Assist with new employee on-boarding and safety orientation.
- Assist in the off-boarding process with personnel.
- Maintain current with legislation and awareness of amendments to the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations and make recommendations for their implementation.
- Collaborate with Partners and HR Manager to ensure policy and standard operating procedures are current and effectively communicated to AOV.
- Maintain safety supply inventory for PPE and signage for AOV.
- Research, plan and organize training programs/seminars internal AOV training and off-site programs such as Working at Heights, CPR/First Aid, Book 7 and any other industry specific related requirements.
- Own our internal training portal ensuring compliance, completion, and effectiveness.
- Obtain and track validation of all education certification.
- Ensure timely completion of accident/injury reporting to Partners and HR Manager.
- Work with HR Manager on Return to Work programs.
- Assist Management with the Joint Health & Safety Committee meetings, complete meeting minutes and draft minutes for review.
- Update the Joint Health & Safety Committee communication boards ensuring compliance.
- Prepare site specific material for safety meetings and toolbox talks for AOV.
- Ensure inspection areas are completed as required and report recommendations.
- Contribute to memorable employee experiences by coordinating training seminars and appreciation events.
- Work with Partners and HR Manager to bring our OH&S program to the next level.
- Act as a backup for the Human Resources Assistant.
- Perform other duties as required.
**Education**
- University degree or college diploma in Health and Safety and/or Human Resources or equivalent combination of education and experience
**Experience**
- 3+ year of relevant work experience
- Experience in workplace health and safety, previous experience as a member of a Joint Health and Safety Committee
**Knowledge/Skills/Abilities**
- Knowledge of, and commitment to using best practices in Human Resources
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Professional written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to build rapport with employees across the organizational sites
- Highly adaptable to changing work priorities
- Excellent time management and organizational skills
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
- Excellent problem-solving skills with ability to provide collaborative solutions to HR challenges
