This position provides the option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays each week, with the requirement to report to the primary NOVA Chemicals work location on Tuesdays through Thursdays. Employees can opt out of the hybrid schedule and will be expected to work Monday-Friday from the primary work location.

We are seeking a Manager - External Innovation and Research Partnerships to join our Innovation Strategy Team. Reporting to the Leader of Innovation Strategy, you will be responsible for systematically identifying, building, and managing promising external collaboration opportunities that broadens external innovation capabilities for NOVA Chemicals.

You will scout, identify, and analyze new collaboration opportunities and new technologies through working with a cross-functional team with the objective to accelerate feasibility assessments and generating recommendations. You will also be responsible for building out a robust management system for reviewing technology opportunities and enabling funding decisions by the business.

This position is located at our Centre for Applied Research in Calgary, Alberta.

**You Will Use Your Expertise To**:
Actively drive technology scouting, evaluation, and project management of approved opportunities in collaboration with internal teams within assigned focus areas: Support Innovation technical teams to build strategic roadmaps for key priority areas defined by the Innovation strategy and combining needs and gaps from Internal stakeholders. Scout opportunities that are relevant to the Innovation portfolio that drive value for the Innovation strategy and key corporate strategic opportunity areas. Work with an internal cross-functional team to evaluate and perform diligence on relevant scouting opportunities and present selected opportunities to senior leadership. Execute approved external Innovation strategy initiatives. Provide support in structuring and negotiating agreements in collaboration with other innovation functions, legal, and corporate development.

Help to build a robust internal and external network of experts and partners: Develop and implement a robust external innovation strategy, including building a network of scientific and business relationships within the innovation ecosystem of petrochemical industry, academia, startups accelerators or other relevant innovation clusters. Inspire other internal functions with integrated open innovation culture and ways of working, communicating insights, thought leadership, and best practices.

Continuously monitor development and progress of technological advancements and competitive intelligence within relevant areas of focus for Innovation Remain on forefront of emerging industry trends and competitor products, strategies, and activities. Leverage technical expertise and competitive intelligence to translate large amounts of information quickly and systematically, develop reports or proposals to support executive decision making based on opportunity size and competitive landscape. Own the continual development and deployment of the external innovation strategic tools, including growing utilization of accelerators/incubators and developing a playbook of best practices for strategic partnership. Support the Leader of Innovation Strategy in developing a robust IP landscape assessment process and KPIs for the Innovation portfolio.

**Provide support for Innovation’s strategies as needed**: Based on specific requests and in collaboration with internal partners, perform strategic fit assessments and develop strategic plan communications for cross-functional senior management.
