Position Summary:
Reporting to the Associate Director, Translation Services, the incumbent will provide high-quality translation services, guidance and expertise to the University community, ensuring that the University’s textual communications published and posted in French are correct, precise and well-written.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Make revisions and corrections to French-language materials.
- As needed, revise the work of other translators by collegially analyzing, correcting, and advising as appropriate.
- Provide professional expertise and advice on a variety of translation issues/requests.
- Maintain excellent rapport with clients by proactively identifying needs and ensuring that work is performed in accordance with established goals and objectives, timelines, quality standards, and the University’s mission and culture.
- Work within the JIRA translation management platform.
- As needed, liaise with freelance translators and translation firms to ensure the high-quality, cost-effective outsourcing of translation tasks.
- As needed, assist in the various projects and mandates managed by Translation Services.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
Must have an impeccable knowledge of the French language and excellent knowledge of the English language. Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Good understanding McGill University’s policy objectives. Excellent understanding of the ‘context’ ‘culture’ and ‘nuances’ of translating the English language to the French language (as opposed to direct literal translation). Excellent attention to detail.
