The job is an integral member of the department management team and is responsible for all aspects of the development and delivery of land use, capital, properties and educational planning.

The job is accountable for the management of land use planning by establishing and maintaining long-range strategic initiatives, management of lands with consideration of the Division’s present and future needs and administration of leases and rentals ensuring effective utilization of facilities. The job collaborates with Facility Services to provide services in support of other departments.

The job directly supervises a team of professional staff and manages a support staff member.

**Job Responsibilities Include**:

- Manage and support staff in the attainment of the goals and objectives
- Assign, delegate and evaluate work performance
- Coach, train and mentor staff
- Manage recruitment and selection process, engagement and retention of staff
- Participate in the disciplinary process
- Identify long-term requirements for potential school sites
- Lead, liaise and work with multi-disciplinary teams
- Represent the Division interests in municipal and provincial policy reviews, special studies and task forces that relate to school land
- Monitor, compile and provide accurate and timely residential development information
- Draft, review, interpret and comment on bylaws, municipal development plans, area structure plans, concept and development plans
- Research, prepare recommendations and draft communications
- Assess and evaluate the Division’s land inventory and prepare the surplus site review
- Formulate recommendations considering the concerns of a broad spectrum of community and special interest groups
- Provide guidance and professional expertise to senior administration on the Alberta Education Act and Alberta Municipal Governance Act
- Manage stakeholder engagement events and provide guidance to the Division’s Engagement Specialist
- Communicate planning information to the general public
- Attend events and meetings in the absence of the Superintendent
- Manage development and annual review of the rate structures
- Oversee the development of agreements
- Oversee the execution of internal and external leases and rentals
- Present lease revenue reports to the Board of Trustees
- Manage the budget including monitoring and forecasting revenue and expenditures
- Manage and approve lessee’s maintenance requests
- Manage the transfer and disposal of land
- Develop negotiation and logistic strategies to ensure continued operations and maintenance revenue
- Lead preparation of the Three-Year Capital, Ten-Year Facilities and Modular Plans
- Lead the implementation of projects and make recommendations to senior administration
- Prepare recommendations for the Board of Trustees
- Interpret demographic data and trends in terms of implications to the Division.
- Identify capital priorities and submit requests for funding to the Government of Alberta
- Review, compile and evaluates Division information sent to Alberta Infrastructure and Alberta Education
- Ensure that site preparation work, including zoning, sub-division and site design is complete to facilitate new school construction
- Lead the development of long-term initiatives
- Review development proposals such as sub-divisions, area structure plans, neighbourhood structure, re-zoning and plan amendments
- Supervise the design and development of questionnaires, surveys and public consultation meeting agendas
- Participate on department management team
- Supervise inspection and maintenance of playgrounds on Division property
- Ensure compliance with regulations related to playscapes and equipment
- Manage request for proposals on new projects
- Approve playground location, equipment and overall concepts
- Manage new builds on Division property
- Advise and assist principals and school councils in the acquisition and installation of equipment
- Maintain and evaluate inventory of equipment
- Review and communicate the life expectancy of playgrounds on Division property
- Work with principals to build capacity, identify safety hazards, understand playground safety
- Make recommendations on replacements
- Assist parent groups with grants and fundraising opportunities
- Manage and distribute grant funds
- Work with the City of Edmonton to address issues on city
