Finance and Administrative Services is responsible for providing leadership and services related to financial and administrative policy, planning, compliance and reporting; and facilities and support services. Services are provided to multiple departments including Treasury Board and Finance, Public Service Commission, Communications and Public Engagement and Executive Council.

Role Responsibilities

Are you a seasoned financial management professional interested in a diverse and rewarding career opportunity? If so, Treasury Board and Finance has an exciting opportunity available for a Manager to join our Benefit Plan Reporting and Procurement team. 

Reporting directly to the Director of Benefit Plan Reporting and Procurement, you will provide leadership and direction to a small and dedicated team of professional staff. A key responsibility of the team is providing accounting and reporting services for the Government of Alberta benefit programs (Long Term Disability, Health Spending and Flexible Spending, Dental, Medical/Prescription Drugs, Group Life).

You will ensure that departmental policies, procedures, and systems are consistent with cross-government standards and department needs and that internal control are operating effectively. You will also be responsible for ensuring that the financial processes are operating efficiently and effectively. 

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate their ability to be a good planner and be well organized, have strong analytical skills and an eye for detail. Proven collaborative leadership management style, communication skills, client focus, coupled with excellent interpersonal skills will facilitate effective liaison with a variety of service providers and stakeholders.

The successful candidate should also have:
• Extensive knowledge of related government legislation, policies, and procedures; including: the Financial Administration Act, Sustainable Fiscal Planning and Reporting Act, and Treasury Board Directives.
• Knowledge of public sector accounting standards and generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
• Experience with understanding complex financial systems and process flows with the ability to drive business process improvements.
• Strong financial analytical skills to translate financial information to business consequences and solutions.
• The capability to achieve results and manage priorities.
