**Position Summary**: The Indigenous Transition Coordinator is responsible to assist students in the transition from Waabgon Gamig First Nation School, Morning Glory PS, Black River PS, Sutton PS and Sutton District High School. The Indigenous Transition Coordinator will work with parents, students, teachers, administrators and community members to assess transition needs. The Indigenous Transition Coordinator will work with the Board and Community to create a strategic and sustainable plan to assist students through the transition process.
**MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES**:
To work with teachers and administrators of Waabgon Gamig First Nation School, Morning Glory PS, Black River PS, Sutton PS and Sutton District High School to assess transition issues.
To work in partnership with the Board, Band Council and the Georgina Island Education Committee.
To provide direct student and family support for those students who are experiencing difficulty in the transition process.
To collect and maintain accurate data and records to support the creation of a strategic plan.
To coordinate regional events addressing the unique needs of First Nation students (Career Fair, Cultural Awareness Activities).
To act as an advocate for First Nation students, parents/guardians, the Band Council, First Nations Education staff and school personnel in supporting student success.
To coordinate the delegate selection process, meeting schedule and program focus for the Indigenous Education Student Advisory Council.
To engage staff, parents and community in restorative practices.
To perform other duties as assigned.
**LINE OF RESPONSIBILITY**:
Responsible to the Principal, Sutton District High School and North Area Superintendent of Schools.
**EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS**:
A four year degree majoring in Native Studies or Psychology or Sociology or any other relevant social sciences is required.
A strong knowledge of First Nations, Métis and Inuit culture, history and perspectives; as well as incorporating experience beyond the classroom within a First Nations community.
Minimum seven years related experience working with First Nations and/or with reserve community is required.
Effective verbal and written communication, interpersonal and strong computer skills in different networking systems are required.
Ability to interact professionally with a variety of individuals and groups both within and outside the Board is required.
Access to own transportation is required.
