**Who We Are**:
Squamish Nation consists of 23 villages and is comprised of descendants of the Coast Salish Aboriginal people who live in the present-day Greater Vancouver area, Gibson’s Landing, and Squamish River watershed. The Squamish Nation has occupied and governed the territory since beyond recorded history. The Squamish Nation's culture is rich and resilient. We continue to practice our customs and traditions, which are strongly interconnected with our traditional territory. Together with our lands, our customs and traditions are the foundations of who we are as Skwxwú7mesh.
As an organization, we provide support to the greater Squamish Nation Community through service. With 12 departments with individual areas of expertise, we ensure Community Members have access to necessary programs and services.
**About The Opportunity**:
Working as an integral part of the Ta na wa Yúus ta Stitúyntsam̓ Rights and Title Department, this position reports directly to the Senior Regulatory Specialist - Rights and Title. This position will monitor the construction of the Woodfibre LNG site, at Swiyat. The monitor will work closely with the FortisBC environmental inspection team to observe construction activities, discuss concerns, and find solutions. You will be the eyes and ears for the Nation on-site. The role will work up to 12 hours per day. The Lead Indigenous Monitor takes on added responsibility in coordinating the Indigenous Monitors and communications with FortisBC Environmental Inspection Team. Trucks, iPads, and personal protective equipment will be provided. This role will require drug and alcohol testing in advance of working on-site and random drug and alcohol testing may be required thereafter if an incident occurs.
**What You Bring**:
- Self-motivated, autonomous, and able to work in a highly dynamic team environment.
- Extremely organized with excellent communication (oral and written) and time management abilities, ability to provide deliverables under tight time constraints.
- Team-oriented with a positive, approachable attitude and an ability to use facilitation skills to manage difficult situations and find consensus solutions.
- Interpersonal skills, including: leadership, team oriented, energetic, self-motivated, creative, patient, persistent, tactful, and conscientious.
- Experience with standard monitoring requirements and processes would be an asset
- Good time management skills and perform their duties responsibly.
- High level of emotional intelligence, patience and integrity.
- Experience with Field Maps.
- Ability to communicate with external stakeholders including construction personnel and environmental or archaeological consultants.
- Leadership experience managing teams.
- Ability and interest to work outdoors on uneven terrain.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience and/or interest in environmental and cultural monitoring.
- Exposure to industrial projects, and knowledge of Squamish Nation land and culture.
**Salary**: $ 31.17 - $ 34.87 per hour, plus a comprehensive benefits program.
