**Position Summary**
The Supervisor, Health Promotion operates in accordance with the mandate of the Health Protection and Promotion Act, Smoke-Free Ontario Act and Ontario Public Health Standards and associated protocols and guidelines, and all other pertinent legislation to ensure the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of quality programs.
The Supervisor leads an interdisciplinary team comprised of Public Health Nurses, Registered Dietitians, Public Health Nutritionist, Communication and Public Affairs Consultant, Public Relations Coordinator, Health Promoters, Enforcement Officers, and Program Support staff working to improve the health of Lambton County residents.
**Job Duties and Responsibilities**
Program Administration:
- Assist in developing, reviewing, and promoting the goals, objectives, policies and procedures from the program area
- Interpret various regulations and policies and other relevant legislation
- Program development and implementation
- Operational planning and program review
Financial Accountability:
- Assist in monitoring budget and tracking expenses
- Assign purchases to appropriate accounts
- Approval of expenditures e.g. resource acquisition, mileage, over-time, day to day needs
Human Resource Management:
- Counseling and mentoring staff, monitor attendance and leave approvals
- Complete reports on vacation, travel, expense statements and job safety
- Complete performance evaluations as required. Initiate first level discipline
- Recruitment and orientation of new staff
- Scheduling of staff to meet program needs
- Ongoing skills development
- Assist with the interpretation of applicable Collective Agreements and handling of grievances
Communication:
- Disseminate information to staff
- Oversee Ontario Tobacco Strategy work plan development to ensure Scope of Service requirements and Ministry expectations are met
- Report to Ministry
- Report to Manager regarding relevant issues and general updates
- Communication to Unions as needed
- Coordinate team meetings and special project meetings
- Assist in identifying and communicating public health issues to staff within the agency, community groups, the media, elected officials, provincial and federal associations and the general public
Project Management:
- Supervision, planning, implementation and evaluation of designated programs, in compliance with various legislation including but not limited to Health Protection and Promotion Act
- Write proposals and grants to secure funding; assist in monitoring budget
- Work with project partners as required
- Plan efficient utilization of staff and resources
- Assist in ensuring the quality of all professional practice through continuous quality improvement
- Act as a resource to staff including individual client/file management and program issues
- Provide staff development program with a planned orientation period, identify staff educational / professional development
- Collect and evaluate relevant statistics and epidemiological data as a basis for program planning
- Promote the utilization of research results in planning and implementing programs; identify issues for research; and participate in agency research
- Promote collaboration with educational institutions; plan, implement, and monitor placements including assigning staff preceptors, evaluating student performance and clinical/practical experience; supervise individuals hired as part of community collaboration projects
General:
- Incumbents must keep up-to-date on all relevant legislation, collective bargaining agreements, County Policies and Procedures, etc. ensuring that these are implemented as prescribed
