Position SummaryTo plan, develop, implement & evaluate Health Promotion programs and participate in the development of plans for other programs and projects that promote awareness and healthy life style behavior changes.
Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesProgram Development/Project Management:- Develop education/promotional programs and policies relevant to the issues of the community
- Select, develop and evaluate health education resources for inclusion in health promotion programs
- Implement the Health Promotion programs described in the Ontario Public Health Standards.
- Deliver community-based programs targeted to the specific needs of the community and supports community-initiated programs
- Develop and disseminate health promotion resources including community campaigns.
- Developing annual program-specific operational plans and budgets
- Assist with program delivery in schools, including Vision Screening.
- Establish and maintain liaison with community groups through project and committee work relevant to the health needs of the community
- Provide consultation to health unit staff and external agency personnel
- Provide consultation to agencies on the development of health promotion guidelines such as non-smoking, nutrition, physical activity, etc.
- Provide information and advisory services to the public in response to local needs
- Conduct presentations, workshops and in-service education for health unit staff, staff of other agencies and community groups
- Interpret current scientific information regarding Healthy Promotion programming
- Collect and analyze data and summarize results in a final publication
- Survey target populations regarding their needs – use health promotion theory to develop programs and resources (i.e. diffusion theory, stages of change theory)
- Create tools for qualitative and quantitative research
- Prepare funding applications based on literature research concerning health statistics, facts, and other key themes
- Write technical reports
- Work with outside agencies and municipal partners to set policies/by-laws
- Implement local advocacy activities that support provincial legislation
- Assist national groups with health advocacy efforts at the local level
- Assist community committees and business to develop policies
- Work with municipal planners on infrastructure development to promote active living and active transportation
- Incumbents must keep up-to-date on all relevant legislation, collective bargaining agreements, County Policies and Procedures, Ontario Public Health Standards, etc. ensuring that these are implemented as prescribed
- Incumbents must possess the physical ability to meet the duties and responsibilities of the job description and/or the requirements identified within the position’s Physical Demands Analysis

Credentials RequiredMinimum Formal Education
- 4 year University degree in Health or Social Sciences
Experience
- Three to four years of experience is required
- Previous experience in community health programs and government organizations
A valid Ontario driver’s license and use of a vehicle.
