An exciting opportunity exist for a creative, energetic individual with excellent communication and teaching ability in the role of Clinical Educator in Nursing Professional Practice, with the assignment Surgical Care - University Hospital. Drawing on solid clinical experience and foundational knowledge in the specialty of Adult Surgical Care the Educator will work in partnership with various members of the leadership team across the program to promote excellence in surgical nursing. The primary focus of this position will be the provision of educational support to all staff members in the General Surgery and Orthopedic Surgery departments at University Hospital. The Clinical Educator’s key responsibilities of this role include: plan, facilitate and evaluate the orientation program and support integration of new staff members to the team. The Clinical Educator’s key responsibilities in this role include: Clinical instruction/teaching at the bedside and support integration of new staff members to the team. The incumbent may also participate in planning, facilitating and evaluating aspects of the orientation program and other ongoing learning opportunities to meet the educational needs of staff members in the unit.

Temporary Full-Time

Rate of Pay: $36.22 per hour - $52.25 per hour

Duration: 12 months

**Qualifications**:

- Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Master's of Science in Nursing (MScN), or Masters of Nursing (MN) or related field required; will consider applicants who are currently enrolled and working towards this Master's program
- Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course: BLS-HCP(C)
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification: ACLS preferred
- Minimum four years recent, related experience in either a clinical or teaching role
- Minimum two years recent, related experience in surgical care nursing
- Recent experience in providing education preferred
- Previous experience teaching surgical nursing preferred
- Demonstrated proficient knowledge in Adult Education theories
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate ongoing learning opportunities to meet the educational needs of staff members across their career span
- Demonstrated ability to organize/implement corporate, central nursing orientation, department and program specific orientation, and delegated corporate initiatives
- Demonstrated excellence in clinical practice
- Experience with professional practice and educational program development tools
- Effective presentation skills; experience in e-learning preferred
- Proven coaching skills, evaluating the development of staff and providing appropriate feedback
- Strong project management and analytical skills
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate learner development and socialization and the ability to use assessment and evaluation strategies effectively
- Ability to participate in curriculum Design and Evaluation of Program outcomes
- Demonstrated ongoing commitment to pursue Continuous Quality Improvement
- Demonstrated ability to engage effectively in scholarship
- Demonstrated strong leadership, interpersonal skills, team building and conflict management skills with individuals as well as program teams/groups
- Effective communication skills (both written and verbal) and the ability to network effectively with other disciplines
- Highly developed critical thinking skills and ability to conceptualize and analyze problems
- Demonstrated excellent problem solving and organization skills
- Demonstrated planning and evaluation skills
