**DESCRIPTION**
Reporting to the Manager - Wildfire Operations and working directly with the group's Researchers and the Government of Alberta Wildfire personnel, the Interns will be supporting field sampling work throughout the Alberta Forest Protection Area, predominantly in the grass fuel types. Field locations will start in the south and move northward as the spring progresses. The objective of this program is to collect detailed field information to continue to build a decision support system for prescribed fire and FireSmart planning in Alberta.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Support Wildfire Operations Researchers both in the office and the field
- Assist in the collection, organization and presentation of data
- Maintain accurate and high quality data collection
- Review, disseminate, and present wildfire literature in both written and presentation formats
- Collaborate with other FPInnovations teams and work group, including Government of Alberta Wildfire
- Develop an understanding of the wildfire environment
- Adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Be registered in a Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Natural Resources, Environmental Studies or equivalent program
- Hold a valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s license or equivalent, with clean driving record
**SKILLS**
- Team player, curious and focused on improving the forest industry
- Resilience, adaptability to changing priorities; our research is often weather dependent, which requires us to respond quickly to rapidly changing environments and circumstances
- Positive attitude and open to learning
- Self-motivation and strong organizational skills
- Experience with field data collection would be considered an asset
- Fluency in English, spoken and written
**GEAR**
- Interns are expected to have adequate work clothing
- Good rain gear is essential, including a completely waterproof and durable outfit - pants, jacket, boots, and hat/hood (good options for material include rubber or Gortex) Be prepared for your gear to get dirty
- A ball cap, toque and mitts/gloves
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (hardhats, eye and ear protection, first aid kits, boots) and backpacks will be provided
