**Role Responsibilities**:
Reporting to the Wildfire Risk Mitigation and FireSmart Manager, the Wildfire Management Specialist is responsible for integrating wildfire management and risk mitigation principles into landscape disturbance planning; most notably Forest Management Plans (FMPs) across the province. This role requires close collaboration with the forest industry, Forestry and Parks staff, and various stakeholders to interpret relevant legislation and provide guidance on wildfire and forest management issues not covered by existing standards.

The specialist focuses on implementing a range of wildfire management strategies to mitigate risks at both the landscape and community levels. Additionally, the position involves developing and delivering wildfire mitigation tools as well as services to enhance the integration of wildfire and forest management programming. Ultimately, effective wildfire management in this role aims to protect Alberta’s economy, ensure the health and safety of its residents, and sustain forest resources.

Key Responsibilities includes but not limited to:

- Collaborate with Forest Management Plan Teams to integrate wildfire management strategies into FMPs and provide wildfire risk mitigation knowledge to the forest industry
- Serve as a liaison for wildfire risk mitigation, influencing the integration of wildfire management goals into forest planning and collaborating with stakeholders to develop supportive policies
- Ensure alignment of forest management strategies with wildfire management and risk mitigation principles, develop educational materials on wildfire mitigation, and identify training needs
- Identify training needs and coordinate delivery for staff and stakeholders while representing forestry on various committees
- Act as the provincial lead for integrating wildfire management and mitigation principles, facilitating knowledge and technology transfer
- Support the development of policies and strategies related to wildfire management
- Provide operational support on Incident Management Teams for wildfire response at provincial, national, and international levels

**Qualifications**:
University graduation (4 years) in Forestry or natural resources plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency:
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
- Additional Requirements:

- Class 5 Driver’s License
- Eligibility for registration with the Association of Alberta Forest Management Professionals
- Supervisory or leadership experience
- Assets:

- Familiarity with forest management policy, legislation, and administration or experience with wildfire integration into forest and land management planning
- Incident management experience to support wildfire operations
- Experience in GIS systems, data analysis, database management and scientific research
