As the Ministry of Forestry and Parks we are responsible for growing Alberta’s environmentally responsible wood products and forestry sector. We protect Alberta’s forests from wildfire and preserve our provincial parks for the recreation and enjoyment of Albertans. As well as enabling access to public lands for recreational and commercial purposes while prioritizing conservation. Forestry and Parks also manages public lands and balances sustainable rangelands and grazing leases for Alberta producers.

**Role Responsibilities**:
Are you able to carry out a range of duties that supports the delivery of the Wildfire Crew programs within the Forest Operations Branch? If the answer is yes, then the Edmonton Forest Officer Unit Crew and Hoist Crews Supervisor position is the right fit for you

Your focus in this position is to supervise the Edmonton wildfire crews and assist with the provincial hoist trial and subsequent remote access program evaluation and development. It will also include assisting with provincial recruitment as well as direct recruitment for the Edmonton Unit and Hoist crews. A secondary focus will be to assist with provincial projects to improve the wildfire crew programs including retention and recruitment. In this position you will be required to be prepared to respond to wildfire incidents and participate in rosters as they arise.

- Your responsibilities as the Edmonton Crew Supervisor are, but not limited to:

- Knowledge and experience in wildfire crew supervision, fire behaviour, fuel types, firefighting techniques, weather conditions, and topography which have been obtained through formal education, division courses and or related field experience.
- Working knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures, Business Rules, FOIP, _Occupational Health and Safety Act_ and related policies and procedures and Contract Administration guidelines.
- Working knowledge of GIS/GPS systems, Field Maps and Avenza.
- Strong creative thinking and decision-making skills
- Strong leadership and human relations skills to direct activities of seasonal staff and fire crews.
- Good organization and time management skills as well as strong problem-solving skills including the ability to make time constrained decisions.
- Ability to be a team player and work with mínimal supervision.
- Ability to lead meetings and give presentations requires knowledge of issues and ability to influence people and results.
- An ability to develop and maintain a working relationship with a wide variety of government representatives, public and industrial stakeholders, and First Nations.

**Qualifications**:
Minimum Requirements:
A related two-year diploma plus 3 years related experience.

Equivalency will be considered: Directly related experience or education considered based on one year of experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.

Special requirements:
Valid Class 5 driver’s License.
Standard First Aid with CPR Certificate.

This position is a temporary, full-time role, with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday. The incumbent may be requested to work overtime, evening, and weekends due to the emergency nature of wildfires.
