In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

The Evaluation Associate is responsible for planning, implementing, and communicating the evaluation of curricula and programs. This will include working collaboratively and effectively with faculty leaders and staff throughout all phases of evaluations to ensure the needs of stakeholders and the organization are addressed.

Organizational Status

The Evaluation Studies Unit (ESU) was established in 2004 to provide program evaluation and strategic reporting services to support planning and decision-making within the UBC Faculty of Medicine (FoM). ESU provides comprehensive, rigorous and objective data to assist stakeholders in the on-going development and improvement of programs. The Unit is organizationally placed within the Education portfolio of the FoM, and is mandated to evaluate the effectiveness, quality, comparability, and impact of educational programs, provide supporting data for accreditation, and meet organizational and government reporting needs.

The Evaluation Associate will report to and receive direction regarding evaluation strategy and plans from the Director. She/he will work closely with the Evaluation Manager on issues related to work plans, personnel, and evaluation resources. She/he will also interact with faculty and staff from the FoM and attend and participate in committees, working groups and planning meetings, as assigned.

Work Performed- Plan and execute basic evaluation projects of curricula and education programs- Develop new evaluation plans for basic evaluation projects, and update evaluation plans for ongoing projects, including program logic models, evaluation designs and methods, and project timelines- Execute and effectively manage evaluation plans within the agreed upon timelines for project tasks and deliverables- Establish and manage relationships with project stakeholders- Conduct literature reviews to inform understanding of program context and ensure evaluations incorporate established theories and external evidence- Develop or update data collection instruments and procedures to measure implementation and outcomes of programs- Collect data using the methods and sources outlined in the evaluation plan- Ensure evaluation activities are implemented in compliance with ethical requirements- Conduct qualitative (e.g. thematic) and quantitative (e.g. descriptive, inferential) data analysis- Interpret results and write evaluation reports and recommendations, memos, and summaries for use by decision-makers- Facilitate the use of evaluation findings for planning and improvement- Develop and implement communications plans to guide dissemination of evaluation findings to stakeholders- Prepare and deliver presentations for decision-makers (e.g. committees, planning meetings, etc.)- Troubleshoot issues and respond to student, staff and faculty inquiries related to assigned work- Contribute to annual reports and other public documents related to evaluation activities- Perform other duties as required to ensure the successful completion of assigned work

Consequence of Error/Judgement

The Evaluation Associate is responsible for planning and conducting evaluations of education programs. Evaluation results and recommendations will be used in making decisions and determining the effectiveness of programs and policies. Poor judgement or errors could result in delayed completion of projects or misinterpretation of information disseminated to leadership and decision-makers.

Supervision Received

The Evaluation Associate will work under the direction of the Director. Work will be reviewed for overall effectiveness and achievement of project/evaluation goals.

Supervision Given

The Evaluation Associate may supervise the work of project staff as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Post graduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of four years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
