Established in 1971, the Red Deer Housing Authority is a Housing Management Body formed pursuant to a _Provincial Ministerial Order _under _the Alberta Housing Act. _ Red Deer Housing Authority provides affordable housing through Community Housing and Rent Supplements to over 1200 households in Red Deer and the surrounding area. We are currently looking for an accounting coordinator to join our team.Reporting directly to the manager of finance and operations, the accounting coordinator is responsible for coordinating the various functions of the general ledger, including reconciliation and analysis of all balance sheet accounts, as well as assisting in the preparation of both operating and capital budgets. The incumbent will also assist in preparing financial reports and analysis for optimal operational effectiveness in accordance with the organization's objectives, policies and procedures while adhering to all regulatory and accounting standards.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**

1. Assist in the development of the annual operating and capital budgets.

2. Monitor adherence to approved policies, procedures and internal control practices related to accounting, payroll and other financial transactions.

3. Provide guidance on account codes and general management of the general ledger.

4. Assist in preparation of the required payments for accounts payable, including for rent subsidy programs and security deposit accounting processes.

5. Responsible for the tracking and closing of the month-end process.

6. Prepare cash, cheques, and other revenues for the deposit on a weekly basis.

7. Prepare month end journal entries including accruals, payroll and cost re-allocation.

8. Prepare monthly allocation entries to assign costs to individual projects.

9. Assist in the coordination of the interim and year-end audits.

10. Assist in the preparation of all government and other grant partner reports as required.

11. Work with senior management to identify and implement efficiencies and cost savings.

12. Other duties as required.

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting and/or Business Administration or relevant post-secondary diploma. Equivalencies and a combination of education and work experience acceptable to the employer will be considered.
- Minimum 2 years of full cycle accounting experience required.
- Must have sound knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) unique to Not-for-Profit Organizations (NPOs) and experience within residential property management.
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders and obtain information required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail including the ability to communicate complex technical issues to a non-technical audience.
- Ability to work in a heavily computerized environment using Yardi and Microsoft Office. Requires Strong Excel skills.
- Strong analytical, organization, strategic thinking and research skills and a demonstrated ability to research and analyze complex issues.
