Corporate Payroll Manager

**Job Description**:
**Scope of the Position**
Reporting to the Vice President, Total Rewards and Corporate HR Services, the Payroll Manager is responsible for leading the Payroll Specialist team, and for the payroll functions for the Company. They will lead the team to accurately process US and Canadian payrolls in multiple states and provinces with both salaried and hourly employees, and several unions.
**Wh**at You Need To Be Successful**
- Minimum 6 years experience in payroll, working in a supervisory capacity for a minimum of 2 years.
- Undergrad degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related discipline
- Completed or working towards the Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) certification
- Deep working knowledge of either US or Canadian payroll and a good working or academic knowledge of the other
- Experience in ADP Workforce Now (WFN)
- Good communication skills - both written and verbal
- Proven ability to maintain sensitive and highly confidential information
- Advanced Excel skills for reporting, metrics and data validation.
- Excellent computer skills and good working knowledge of MS Office suite of products
- Experience working in an organization with offices across multiple jurisdictions with some experience working with Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs).
- Prior experience in finance/ accounting
- Experience working with benefits and pensions in both Canada and US
- Experience leading payroll projects and identifying innovative solutions to streamline payroll processes
**Key Responsibilities**
- Lead a team of Payroll Specialists. Guide, train and mentor team members.
- Maintain and review payroll processes to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
- Ensure compliance with federal, provincial/state, and local payroll legislations and best practices.
- Work closely with Finance to ensure accurate accounting of payroll related expenses
- Lead payroll year end processes
- Ensure business continuity by cross training and documenting processes
- Partner with broader Human Resources teams on standardization of SLA’s and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Continually strive for operational excellence; seek ways to streamline processes, create operational efficiencies and foster a culture of continuous improvement, enhanced controls and data integrity
- Collaborate with the benefits team to ensure accurate processing of benefits
- Work with pension providers and pension administrator to ensure accurate processing of deductions and company matches, and deferral of payments to 401(k) and DC plans
- Serve as the point person for all audits performed by both internal and external auditors including CRA, IRS and audits related to the annual filing of 5500s in the US
- Continuously improve processes and harness technology where needed by working with the technology team to prioritize projects that create efficiencies.
- In conjunction with the technology team, lead planned and adhoc projects focusing on automation, enhancement and integration of payroll into regular business processes
- Manage relationships with payroll vendor (ADP) as well as other related vendors. In particular, work closely with the ADP tax team to ensure compliance
- Handle escalations received, including inquiries and exception requests in a timely manner to ensure quick, equitable and courteous resolution
**Location: Chemtrade is located in North York (404 & Finch) and adopts a hybrid work schedule with 1 or 2 days per week to work from the office.**
