- The Wire Report is part of The Hill Times Canada’s leading political news company. This is an opportunity to be part of a dynamic and influential newsroom in a growing and vibrant company.
- As editor, you will lead the news team and have the opportunity to report on and analyze the latest developments in Canada's wireless, wireline, broadcast, and streaming sectors, as well as privacy, copyright, and other emerging internet law issues.
- **Responsibilities**:
- Assign and edit business, court and regulatory news covering Canada’s telecom and media industries;
- Lead your team of journalists and collaborate with leaders within The Hill Times;
- Stay on top of developments in Canada's telecom, broadcasting, and streaming sectors, including regulatory decisions, mergers and acquisitions, and industry trends;
- Cover major industry players such as Bell, Rogers, Telus, Quebecor, and their competitors, as well as smaller players and startups;
- Develop sources within the industry and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and policymakers;
- Conduct interviews with industry experts, analysts, and policymakers to gain insights and perspectives on these issues;
- Write clear, accurate, and insightful news stories and analysis pieces for publication on our website and in our newsletter;
- Assign and edit your teams' coverage of related topics, such as tech policy and innovation;
- Stay abreast of emerging internet law issues in Canada and around the world, including data privacy, cybersecurity, intellectual property, and other related areas;
- Attend relevant events and conferences to stay informed and network with industry insiders.
**Qualifications**
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field
- At least 5 years of experience in journalism
- A track record of breaking news and producing in-depth stories on complex topics is an asset
- A strong understanding of the Canadian telecom, broadcasting, and streaming sectors, as well as emerging internet law issues, is an asset
- Excellent writing and reporting skills, commitment to accuracy and attention to detail and a knowledge of CP style.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced news environment
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with others
- This is a full-time position based in our Ottawa office with remote work options.
