**Course Description/Relevant Employment Duties**

In Physics 1A03, the basic concepts of classical Physics were introduced. In Physics 1AA3, some essential concepts of modern physics will be covered. We will begin with classical physics - Circular and Rotational motions - then move on to Electricity and Magnetism, and finally end with Atomic physics (classical and quantum mechanics), and briefly touch upon Nuclear physics. We will introduce concepts behind quantum physics and establish how both particle and wave descriptions are required to reach an understanding of atomic and subatomic phenomena.
Prerequisites: Physics 1A03

**Course Expectations**
The content of the course (pdf copies of the PowerPoint Slides) is posted on the “Comprehensive Lecture” module on Avenue to Learn. Each lecture session is posted as a video and should be watched prior to our class session. There will be in-person sessions during the scheduled class time. These sessions include a question-answer time, discussion, and i-Clicker quizzes through i-Clicker polling. Attendance will be taken through i-clicker polling and will go towards your course participation grade.
In each session we will be building upon, rather than repeating, what you have read and watched prior to the in-person session (lecture notes, related chapters of your textbook and the lecture video), so it is very important to complete your reading/watching assignments. The i-Clicker quizzes during in-person sessions are short comprehension tests based on the assigned readings and the material you watched in the lecture videos. They are meant to help you retain what you learn and to assess how well you comprehend the material. If you find you are not doing well on the clicker quizzes, you should be asking more questions in our in-person sessions All students are responsible for having i-Clicker in every in-person session.

The course is organized as follows:
Weekly video modules with main course content (these can be watched at a time that suits you) plus PDFs of PowerPoint slides of the lecture topics (e.g. Circular and Rotational Motion, Electric fields, Electric Potential, etc). The videos should be watched ahead of the in-person question/ answer, discussion and problem-solving sessions in order to acquire the necessary background and preparatory information.
- Three (3) in-person (Review lecture, discussion, i-Clicker Quiz and problem solving) sessions per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays (at your regularly scheduled lecture time)
- 4 required labs in the term
- Weekly Assignment through LONCAPA - varied schedule, check the LONCAPA website for upcoming assignments.
- 1 term test
- 1 final exam

**Required Qualifications**
Minimum of a M.Sc.

**Preferred Qualifications**
M.Sc. in a relevant field

- 15.02(a) The employee may be eligible to receive supplemented fees in accordance with Schedule C of the Collective Agreement. The actual rate of pay when in excess of the base rate of pay is deemed to include any supplemented fees owing, to the extent of the excess amount.
